This movie was SHIT! I heard that there were some people complaining about it not receiving any awards or whatever. It didn't deserve anything. Even the portrayal of MLK was disappointing, although that had more to do with the writing than it had to do with David Oyelewo's performance. Oyelowo was good, but even then he wasn't Oscar worthy at all. They portrayed MLK as weak is this film and the flow and the focus of the story was just mediocre. Thoughts?
I haven't seen it, but I was always skeptical. Looks like a network TV movie of the week, based off the trailer.
I love civil rights movies. Mississippi Burning Ghost of Mississippi The Long Walk Home Malcolm X King (Mini Series) But this movie never once got my attention. I saw all the hype it was getting, but felt the hype was manipulated, because if the hype was real, i would have gone to see it. All the fake tears at the awards shows, etc. just seemed forced.
Well, it only got critical acclaim because of its subject matter. I mean, we can't go slagging-off MLK now, can we? :nono: :wack:
word (although I know you only say that because you have inherent prejudice). The Great MLK is portrayed in a film and so as a default the film must be critically acclaimed. Ludicrous. The film was no good.
In the back of my mind i feel the film was made simply to be released at the anniversary of the Selma march. Reminded me doing a remake of the Film omen simply because they had to chance to release on June 6, 2006
Well look on the bright side. Let's say you did hate African Americans. trust that Africans hate them much more than you.
I will say this though, the way African American women, in particular, are portrayed in the media, I hate them. If the media portrayal is to believed the majority of them are finger waving neck jerking, lip pursing, loud mouthed, overweight, masculine, dyed weave hair, overly-accessorized, multiple kids with no fathers having, ebonics-speaking Sheniquas!!
