Whats the future for him? He looked like a truly elite fighter prior to losing to Alcine. The problem for him is that he's 37, but he's got skills.
he looked awesome beating up two of the most mediocre title holders in the history of the jr. middleweight division. he and his brother are also difficult to promote and due to that, they're very very inactive. they might as well call it quits.
I never thought Travis Simms was an elite fighter. I thought he had the talent to win some big fights but he's always been up and down.
He's very negative fighter though, his fight against Alcine was atrocious. I couldn't care less if he never fights again.
Lots of NATURAL Talent (Good HANDSPEED, Good POWER, Good MOBILITY), but Not Enough BOXING ACUMEN... & Like Baron Said, he's a Very NEGATIVE Fighter...Or as Doub would Say, he's a "Stinker"::... If/when Simms Discovers he CAN'T Knock his Opponent Out, his Fights Become UTTERLY Boring... Guys like Vernon Forrest & Sechew Powell have MORE Promotional UPSIDE than Travis Simms...SAD, yet TRUE... REED:kidcool:
Yep. He's a stinker alright. And it's probably why we'll never see him in another major fight again. Especially in light of Alcine's recent fate.
Simms an elite fighter? Never. He's just another one of those fighters who have the aesthetic's that appeal to a certain demographic within the boxing community. Speed, 'flash' and the illusion of natural ability. A Zab Judah lite, if you will. A fraud.
And what about TARVIS Simms?? I mean WTF!!! That's probably the only thing more retarded than naming BOTH of your two sons Travis... :bangh: oh yeah baby Travis is such a beautiful name but we can't use it again... oh what if we just change two letters... :notallthere:
That's sort of how I see Dawson. People get all giddy over a fighter who has a bit of speed, flash, and combos. I like speed and combos as much as the next guy, but there is so much more to making a great fighter than that. People tend to overrated fighters like Simms and Dawson.
I'll never forget the hoes that came into the ring when tarvis won the title. Two of the most classless low-life bitches to ever grace my small screen.
Only saw him fight vs Alcine as I was very disapointed, I had heard good things about him but he showed me nothing, only a decent left hand, no jab, no combos, no ring intelligence, just a spoiler making mean face and throwing the left hand once in a while
No doubt, Dawson is a lot better than Simms, I never thought otherwise. My point was simply that guys with a bit of speed and a bit of flash DO get overrated, people are impressed with it and overlook other crucial factors. On that point - X - I totally disagree that Travis ever looked like an elite fighter. An elite fighter is like Pacman, Calzaghe, Floyd, Cotto. Travis didn't look close to this level in my eyes. Surely you didn't think he was in that sort of league?
I think Travis won that belt when Terra Garcia looked at the ref and Travis basically clocked him with a huge left. Not exactly a win that would suggest he is elite. He made the most out of that free shot. also more recently Terra has gone on to get KTFO in 1 round by Yori Boy Campas
Flame me all you want, but I really believed that Travis Simms was the only fighter between 140 and 154lbs that was capable of beating Floyd Mayweather Jr. I still think that even after his terrible showing against Alcine, he was capable of doing it too. The two brothers just started pricing themselves out of some decent matchups thinking that they deserved star money just because they were ranked. I hate it when fighters do that. "Oh, I'm ranked #8 so I deserve 100,000+ for my next fight." No you don't. You got that spot by fighting a nobody, you don't sell alot of tickets, and you've never been on Fox Sports Net let alone HBO.
