This is probably why HBO rejected the Berto-Cintron fight. I thought HBO was done with Cintron but maybe they figure since Williams just got KO'd that he'd be vulnerable enough to make a Cintron fight interesting. http://www.fighthype.com/pages/content9135.html
Great. I wanted to see a rematch since Kermit was outpointing Williams before disaster happened. IMO Kermit will be more agressive and will look for a KO from the start as well as Williams, who needs an emphatic victory after his KO loss. It will be a good fight.
Why? he clearly hurt Williams and was outpointing him before the accident. Had that not happened I am sure it was going to be him, not Sergio martinez, the first boxer to KO Paul Williams. Williams got a gift decision that night and you know it.
This is such fucking BULLSHIT They said Wlad vs Povetkin wasnt good enough to be on HBO?? Boente is right, fuck HBO, lets go our own way. Cintron IS NOT A PROFESSIONAL FIGHTER. The man is not INTERESTED in fighting. He's just looking to quit, fall over, cry, collect his money and then fuck off. I couldn't like a fighter less.
Gift decision? Cintron jumped out of the ring to avoid being beaten down. He could have resumed the fight if he was as confident as you are.
I think Cintron is a good opponent for Williams at this point. My guess is that Williams' camp probably feels the same way. If Paul is to continue fighting and make any sort of waves from this point on, he needs to get back in the ring and start piling up victories again. Try and make the Martinez stuff look more like a flukey bad style matchup for Williams rather than a case of him already being on the decline. I have said before that I thought Williams' career was going to be exciting but brief due to his style and propensity to get hit, so if he plans to keep on, it makes sense to get back in the ring quickly. Cintron brings a name to the table, although perhaps an infamous one nowadays, and he also is incredibly flawed as a fighter. If Paul Williams is not already damaged goods, he can beat Kermit Cintron and can probably look reasonably good doing it. Cintron always gasses about mid-fight and really slows down, and Williams traditionally has had great stamina and punch output even into the late rounds. Additionally, pre-flight Cintron was actually doing a decent job in the Williams fight, and I was in fact a bit shocked at the competitive nature of the bout... so barring another trip to the commentator's table, I would expect this to be a good fight to watch. Williams probably wins by late TKO. But given some questions about Paul Williams at this point, how their styles matched in the last fight, and despite the loathing Kermit Cintron gets on this board, I would not be surprised at all if Cintron beat Williams and even KO'd him. I once had an (admittedly idiotic) idea for an invention wherein if you despised a particular TV personality, you could connect a little device to your TV and place a digital bag over that person's head at all times. I think the lot of you might actually enjoy this fight if you could employ such a device on the frog.
After getting stretched the way he did, I dunno if gy is the best comeback opponent for Tall Paul. Prior to jumping, gy was touching up Tall Paul alot. If he does it now, who knows how Tall Paul's chin will react.
I have watched the first fight a few times, like you mentioned Cintron was landing his shots and hurt Williams. This is a bad matchup for Williams who just suffered one of the most brutal 1 punch knockouts that I have ever seen. Cintron is gonna knock him out.
I have rarely if ever favored Cintron but if you have a chance watch the first fight again. The fight plan Team Cintron had was working almost perfectly. He was landing big power shots and managed to hurt Williams before the tragic end. Fighting Cintron will not bold well after being ko'd. One of Williams biggest strenghts was his chin and he must have doubts about it at this point.
It sucked for 3 rounds then 1 good exchange and Cintron jumped out the ring. It doesn't take much to impress you hex,
I agree with you that Paul needs this fight but what Paul really needs to do is change his style to the one he's already shown he's capable of doing. In the Margarito fight Paul used reach, movement, and clinching to dominate Margarito. He fought an intelligent fight that used his physical advantages to the fullest. For some reason Paul, much like Mosley, prefers to go in the trenches and brawl, but unlike Mosley he no longer has the chin for that duty. If Paul wants to continue with a career at the top and get fights with the likes of Floyd and Pacquiao he needs to dispense with the exciting brawling style and box from the outside like he did with Margarito. Of course if he fights like that there's no way Floyd or Pacquiao would want any piece of him but I could see that version of Paul beating Martinez in a rematch and definitely beating Cintron.
