OK kids, here we go. This is the first event of the 2011 1st Quarter Prediction contest. Normally I will limit the fights to main card bouts. However, in this case I did include one prelim fight due to a special interest fighter. We have a full week to study the fights and fighters so get to it. The contest will be very simple. The person with the most points at the end of the quarter (March 31) will be the winner and crowned 'Fightbeat MMA Expert'. Points are awarded as follows: 5 points for picking the winner, correct round, and method of winning (submissions don't have to be exact) 4 points for picking the winner and correctly picking either the round OR method of victory 3 points for picking the winner but not correct round or method of victory 2 points for a fight ending in a draw 1 point for an incorrect pick If you don't understand the points, then you're likely a moron and shouldn't be participating anyway. Good luck! Main card Lightweight bout: Evan Dunham vs. Melvin Guillard Heavyweight bout: Matt Mitrione vs. Tim Hague Featherweight bout: Mark Hominick vs. George Roop Heavyweight bout: Pat Barry vs. Joey Beltran Lightweight bout: Cole Miller vs. Matt Wiman Bonus Prelim Fight Lightweight bout: Cody McKenzie vs. Yves Edwards
why do you get a point for predicting the fight wrong? Or 2 points for the fight ending in a draw? What if you predict the draw? Lightweight bout: Evan Dunham vs. Melvin Guillard- Guillard by SD Heavyweight bout: Matt Mitrione vs. Tim Hague- Matt Mitrione by TKO1 Featherweight bout: Mark Hominick vs. George Roop- Hominick by Submission RD1 Heavyweight bout: Pat Barry vs. Joey Beltran- Barry by Knockout RD2 Lightweight bout: Cole Miller vs. Matt Wiman- Miller by Submission RD1 Bonus Prelim Fight Lightweight bout: Cody McKenzie vs. Yves Edwards- McKenzie by Submission RD1 <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
If you pick a draw then that would qualify as picking the winner, the round, and the method. The reason for the points for draws and incorrect picks is to force people to pick on every fight.
That is correct. And it doesn't matter if you pick unanimous, split or majority. Just like you don't have to specify triangle, arm bar, RNC, etc for submissions.

I'd love to pick Cody and I am rooting for him, but if he can't guillotine you he doesn't have much more. Yves is a rugged vet and is no slouch, I think his striking is much better than Cody's and I don't see him getting guillotined.

Main card Lightweight bout: Evan Dunham vs. Melvin Guillard------ Melvin has a propensity for getting submitted everytime he gets close to a relatively big fight. And Dunham is smooth as it gets on the ground. Dunham via Sub 1 Heavyweight bout: Matt Mitrione vs. Tim Hague----Believe it or not, Hague is the best guy Mitrione has faced. Hague is an average fighter but I think he will test the mental toughness of Meathead and it might get interesting. Meathead via TKO 2 Featherweight bout: Mark Hominick vs. George Roop---- Tough call. Should be a stand up battle with Roop having a serious reach advantage. Neither guy has big power. Roop via SD Heavyweight bout: Pat Barry vs. Joey Beltran-----Who knows. Either guy can be lethargic as hell. But I like Barry's striking and size. Barry via KO1 Lightweight bout: Cole Miller vs. Matt Wiman----Wimanis a tough dude and I honestly like his chances in this one. That being said, I gotta go with the Cole who trains locally down here. Miller via Sub 2 Bonus Prelim Fight Lightweight bout: Cody McKenzie vs. Yves Edwards----Man, I love Cody and his sick, homemade guilliotine but Edwards is a very well-round and experienced guy. This is a huge step up in talent for Cody. Edwards via TKO 2 <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
As a heads-up for the diehards, you can watch the prelim fights for free tonight at: http://www.facebook.com/UFC

He had an off night. Happens to just about everybody. Do you know anything about American Top Team or any of Cole's previous fights. Im not a Cole Miller fan by any stretch but your assessment is based on a bad performance from a very talented kid. I have seen your other posts on the MMA forums and your opinions and input are just like your name - TERRIBLE :shit: Go look at your James Toney poster and rethink things. "My name is el terriblee and i hate MMA but I watch every event, free or PPV, then go to MMA forums and talk about how bad it is. I'm too busy to bother with fight picks and I lack the ability to offer anything intelligent here." Back to General Discussion with you. Your act is tired.
trplsec, are you going to post the results? I got my ass handed to me on theat. picked Dunham, Cody, and miller:scratcher: still trying to figure out why I picked miller.
The results are in the top thread in this forum. Don't feel bad about picking Miller. It was the one fight everyone got wrong. No one on here picked Wiman. And Matt looked as good as anyone in the division.
Not if you make them 2 days after the event. UFC Fight for the Troops is basically an MMA telethon. The guys aren't the most highly ranked but it was a good card for this type of event. There were two fights with guys in the title mix. And a bunch of the guys are from the TUF series.
