Well, then it's simple. Anderson can drop down to 170 and challenge GSP. It seems like TLC has ended the reasons for not making the mega fight. Silva can easily make 170 so the fight should be on for GSP's welterweight title. Well, actually that's bull shit. Silva hasn't fought under Middleweight in almost 8 years or since he was 26 or 27 years old. There is NO way he makes 170 without being near death. Why is so hard to understand that a guy that is 6'2" and cuts to make 185 is just naturally bigger than GSP. I don't know if he is naturally 20, 30 or 40 pounds bigger, but Silva is just a naturally bigger man than GSP. Put it to rest TLC. GSP is the better pound for pound guy right now and he doesn't need to fight Silva (who fights in a division 15 pounds away) to prove it. Period.
I dont care what weight, size or blood type these guys are. GSP has nobody to fight, Silva has nobody to fight... they are one division apart, meet in the middle and lets get it on. In saying that if Anderson cannot make that cut, GSP needs to step up and take on the challenge..
Silva actually has his hands completely full in a couple weeks with Belfort. If he wins that and Sonnen isn't suspended or in jail, the rematch needs to happen. As for GSP, most probably think his upcoming bout with Jake Shields is a pushover. I don't. If he gets by Shields and then a Fitch rematch (provided Fitch beats Penn) then we talk about a meet in the middle mega fight. If Silva says he can make 170, why not do it at a catch weight of 178 or so?
Both have good fights coming up and are by no means 'easy fights'. However if they both dispatch their opponents some other buck will raise his head wanting a shot... the fight needs to happen and sooner rather than later. I don't mind a catch as long as it's possible for Anderson.
I'm not so sure that Belfort is such a huge challenge for Silva. He is sort of the perfect matchup. A past his prime striker who Silva can pick apart from a distance. I would think of a very good wrestler with decent striking to give Silva the biggest problems. I hope I am wrong, as I want to see Silva in a good fight again.
Belfort will probably definitely try to take Anderson down. Wouldn't be too shocked if he succeeded either, pretty good TDs.
Couture talks about this fight, and a lot of other things in this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7hluiWiAM0&feature=player_embedded Around the 7:00 minute mark.
Trplsec is on point here. Getting down to 170 at his age now would be brutal on his body. I think I told most of you I have had a few am fights. It was about 8 years ago now. The fights were at 155. I am still 5'9" tall, but to get down to 155 would damn near kill me. Beings I walk around at 175. I consider myself a fairly in shape 36 year old(Granted, I am not putting myself on the same level as professional athletes, but more regular joe's). But to get my body down to a weight I was at when I was 28 is damn near unthinkable. I like TKO's idea of a catchweight. The fight doesn't have to be for the titles per say, just the p4p title and bragging rights. I would love to see it.
you're 36 Jarhead? Old bastard! :: I'm 32 and always picture eveyone here younger than me for some reason.
Nope, nor does she even exist. :: You should get help, imaginary "friends" at your advanced age is not normal.
