Fucking awful. I remember how genuinely concerned I was for his health going into Tarver III.

I didn't think his balance looked right in the first Tarver fight, FWIW.

Once he gets this fixed (LOL), I bet we get to see the old Roy again. You all musta forgot.

Seriously, brain damage works far better as an excuse than a hurricane or poorly timed coffee.

Honestly, this is a bit of stretch in my opinion. Roy rarely even got hit prior to fighting Tarver. And it wasn't like he took a ton of punishment in any of the Tarver fights. The KO was over quickly and the 1st and 2nd were boxing matches. The Johnson fight was more brutal but still, that's one fight. Either Roy has a sensitive brain or he's hunting for more excuses to continue fighting.

True, the Tarver rematch was simply a one-punch knockout. But the fact that he wasn't given much time to recover - HBO had no available dates left which was why he fought less than five months later - factors into what we were left with after the Johnson fight.

It can easily be argued that the Johnson fight finished him off, but the quick turnaround (in terms of recovering from a knockout and then going right back into training) contributed to it.

That said, I can't see how this is a ploy to continue fighting. If anything, the article should remain on the office bulletin board of every state commission as proof that he should never fight again.

Damn shame, you could never have imagined RJJ being in this kind of shape during his prime years, he was the closest I've seen to untouchable. Sad shit man.

This is a sily statement. It's astounding an adult can say something this foolish.

While I don't dispute that something may be wrong with Roy, who in the hell goes to a chiropractor for a brain injury?

after what happened to Ali, nothing surprises me.

I read that Ali had tests done before he fought Holmes and he had trouble touching his finger to his nose...and yet he still fought.

Once the docs are done with him he should hire Kevin Roony to work on his head movement and then he can take on the Klitschkos and win a world title.

Roy obviously had problems with his balance after those fights. In fact, both times the problems appeared suddenly during the fights when he got hit

Thomas Hauser wrote an article about Roy, I'm thinking it was just after the third Tarver fight. In the article he wrote Jones once told him that he couldn't remember the Richard Hall fight. Hall hit him with a shot in the second round (I believe) and Roy couldn't recall the rest of the fight.

That's particularly scary considering how badly he beat Hall's ass.

I don't necessarily believe that, but boxing is one hell of a tough racket. We're all lesser people for loving boxing.

Getting crushed in the head by your opponents best shot tends to ruin you balance a lil bit.

It's a tough business...just because you win doesn't mean you don't get hurt. I saw a video on YouTube where Tyson talked about his Razor Rudduck fights. He said he won the fights but Rudduck kicked his ass. Said after those Rudduck fights he was never the same.

I recall Rudduck landing good shots in the first fight but taking an ass kicking in the rematch. Tyson said a Rudduck punch hit him on the jaw but broke his ribs.

I would say the 12 rounder with Calzaghe did more damage than anything which happened with Tarver I or Johnson.

I do feel genuinely sorry for the guy but I think he is bullshitting us here.

He never had any balance problems back then because if he did, he would have been total mush after the Calzaghe fight.

I think the damage is there, and is for real, but was only discovered in the last year or so.

Now Roy wants us to believe that a brain-damaged guy like him was taking all these hard fights and looking good.

i thought the rematch was competitive. tyson won 7-5, 8-4 (w/ knockdowns and there were also point deductions from both guys), but he did take plenty of flush shots. it was also a dirty ass fight.

Was a good scrap...especially in comparison to heavyweight fights today. Rudduck landed good shots early in the rematch but I was surprised to hear Tyson say he got his ass kicked.

oh absolutely. and it was actually like the only competitive fight that tyson won.

rudduck also wasn't the same after those two fights. not sure why everyone nutted when lewis KOed him in two rounds.
