List some brutal one-sided fights that could've or should've been stopped, but went the distance. The one that always comes to mind for me is Hopkins-Joppy. That was a serious beating. A little bit more understandable than some of the others listed here due to the 50k on the line over whether Joppy would go the distance, but I'm not sure if 50k was worth the pain Hops dished out that night. Others - Klitschko/Briggs - Briggs' corner should be banned from boxing, imo. Pacquiao/Margarito Calzaghe/Lacy - I can't believe anyone thought Lacy had a chance in this fight. This was "exposed" redefined. Wright/Trinidad should have been stopped, if only to spare Trinidad the embarrassment.
Can't mention Trinidad and not mention David Reid. Not one-sided all the way throught, but it was brutally so late. And Briggs should have never been in the ring with Klitschko, which I think makes it a brutal match-up, let alone brutal fight.
Agreed on both counts. It's a shame what happened to David Reid - he had a lot of talent and potential.
Scott Harrison - Wayne McCullough. Not only should the fight have been stopped at some point, but McCullough should have also been forced to call it a career immediately thereafter
How about the Robinson-Basilio clashes? Hard to find better examples, no? Ward-Gatti I & Frazier-Ali I as well.
Not saying they really should've been stopped, but Mavrovic took a beating against Lewis, as did Ruddock in the Tyson rematch.
Mavrovic marked up from the jabs, but Lewis did not give him a "beating". Mavrovic was never going to win the fight but he was never close to going out, and won the 7th round, causing Manny to go batshit in the corner. :Gulp:
Lewis hammered him over and over with hard right hand bombs, and his patented hit-and-hold uppercut. I agree that it was right to not stop the fight, but I commend Mavrovic for being tough as hell.
