Ron Lyle, Jimmy Young, Jerry Quarry, & Oscar Bonavena. One at a time, naturally. How does this Boxing enigma fare?
I'd pick Ike over Quarry and Bonavena. Lyle is a close call but I'd give the edge to Ike. Young defeats him
I'd take Ike by KO over all of them. Young might last the distance, but if Ike could take out Chris Byrd with that hookercut, it's likely he'd find Young sooner or later as well. Now, Ibeabuchi vs the Foreman that fought Frazier.. that would've been a FIGHT.
He beats all of them, with the possible exception of Jimmy Young, based on his performances against Tua and Byrd.
I gotta say, I feel he is the most absurdly over-rated fighter. I wouldn't be surprised if he won a back-&-forth tussle with Bonavena, but Lyle, Young & Quarry would comfortably accoutn for him. Young & Quarry would counter-punch him stupid.
Ramonza you're one of the best posters here but your position on Ike is just RIDICULOUS! Some people may have turned him into a legend but you have GROSSY overcompensated for that. Quarry would comfortably beat him? Please retract that statement por favor. ::
Ibeabuchi proved the strength of his chin in the Tua fight. Proved his stamina in the Tua fight and proved his power in many fights. Quarry and Lyle were not as good as him.
I can't agree, honestly. Quarry & Lyle fought Ali, Foreman, Frazier, Norton in varying components. They fought in a deeper era. Expanded their considerable wealth of experience beyond twenty fights. Tua & Byrd? That is, let's be honest, all anyone ever speaks of in regards to Ibeabuchi. I'm not taking away from those efforts (though I find Tua in particular massively over-estimated), they were fine performances, & did the man have potential? I wouldn't say no. "Potential," is one thing. Real results are another, & Lyle & Quarry have those well in-hand. Ibeabuchi does not. I could see him having excellent fights with Bonavena &, thinking about it, Lyle too (I will retract having said Lyle, "comfortably," accounts for him) but I do not see him being anything close to this second-coming people somehow view him as (again, based solely on two good performances on two far-from-great rivals). I have absolutely no doubt, none, that had he gotten as far as Lennox Lewis, nobody would remember the name Ike Ibeabuchi with anymore regard than they remember names like Michael Grant & Fres Oquendo. I'm not saying he was necessarily no better than those men, but he'd have been shut down just as effectively, from what I've seen. Sly, for how many rounds would Ibeabuchi, being greater than Lyle, outbox & outpunch a pre-Manila Ali? Lyle made it ten rounds --- for how long would Ali be outclassed by Ibeabuchi? How many knockdowns would Ibeabuchi force upon Foreman? Lyle managed two, & was arguably robbed of a knockout opportunity by the bell for round four's conclusion. Would Lyle not have bested Tua? Would Lyle not have found a way through Byrd? Would Lyle, Quarry, Young & Bonavena not go 20-0-0, or very near to it, against Ibeabuchi's competition?
