I've been watching clips of this guy recently as I haven't seen him before and have to say i'm quite impressed. He has great workrate, throws a hell of alot of punches and has raw power and has shown a decent chin too. His style would be a nightmare for either Klit and Haye and IMHO has the style to beat all mentioned, but against the Klits it'll be a different story as the opponents Povetkin has faced have not seemed to have had a decent jab (I may have missed a couple of other opponents who may have had a good jab tho vs Povetkin.)

What are your thoughts on this guy? He's been the distance, (12 rounds once, plus has won another 12-rounder via an 11th round TKO win vs Chris Byrd.)
He's 31 years old now and probably in his best shape to fight for a World Title (possibly vs Haye next), so do you think with his style, he has the tools to defeat Haye?

I'm always impressed with Povetkin. His balance is beautiful, which gives him a really excellent punch arsenal. He seems to know how to negotiate distance really nicely by jabbing, feinting & diverting attention away from his advance - you never see him lunging or reaching. He's never passive with range either, he's very fastidious about being outside of his opponents reach, unless HE wants to initiate an attack, he understands the importance of that, like the Klits do. And he's a terrific infighter once he's there, really nice short, accurate punches, understands how to create angles and pick a shot without ever getting wild or leaving himself open.

On the downside, his shear methodicalness might count against him vs the Klits since he doesn't have the fastest feet and generally isn't the most explosive guy in getting inside. I can't really think of a heavyweight to compare him to, but needless to say he isn't from the Tyson or Frazier mold. Comparisons with Nacho Beristain fighters almost ring more true. But I've never seen a Beristain fighter have to negotiate a 6" height disadvantage against guys as masterful with range as the Klits.

And it concerns me that Povetkin has never fought a notable opponent over 6'3, and how reluctant his handlers seemed to be to put him in with either brother.

So I think he's a very good fighter but I don't know if he's a good style match up vs the Klits. He might end up taking a pasting and being historically underrated. He's better than the rest but he might not look it in there with them. Povetkin-Haye would be fascinating though & I think he has the single best chance of beating Wlad of anyone out there. I wanna see these fights quickly.

He's good. I hope he hasn't wasted his career.

Boxing's really in a bad way when none of these fights can be made. The incentive structure to make the big fights is out of whack.

Yea I think he had his First pro fight at the age of 25. He still has a great engine tho at 31 plus he has the beating of Chisora for sure imo. Do you think he beats Haye?

I don't know. Povetkin always seems to be winded, overheating like an SUV in the middle of the Nubian Desert, he also seems to get tagged clean a lot- see his fight with Eddie Chambers. He is also carrying 2-3% of fat that he could handily drop.

Teddy Atlas? Man.....that guy could fucking delay global warming. All Global Warming needs to do is hook up with Teddy and the ice-caps would be safe for another 10 years. Teddy exists to fuck up fighters and to emote to breaking point. Their breaking point, that is.

Anyone got a full fight link for the Povetkin/Chambers fight? Can't find it on youtube.

He was among the most dominating amateurs in the short history of super heavyweight class. He has all the physical tools and technical skill to be very good and for the first 12 fights or so everything looked really promising. Then came injuries, after that came Atlas and nothing has worked since. If he was as good as he was against Chambers, I'd pick him to beat Haye, now, he probably loses
