    I saw Vasquez step in as a late replacement and score a punishing and totally clinical dismantling knockout on the Chavez-Fuentes under card at Caesar's Palace in the old Sports Pavilion late in 1989, and I became a fan of his.

    I liked Lopez better as a fighter, but Vasquez was all wrong for the tough surfing playboy that trained on women and weed as much as he did in the gym.

    Vasquez just would have frustrated him by slipping and sliding around him from both sides, and Lopez was big time open for that educated right jab of Vasquez.

    Lopez misses the majority of his big bombs and eats dozens of flush shots as Vasquez wins it 9-3.
