Haven't done any other Top 5 prospect lists but rest assured, this guy is number one on my MW list and by a WIDE margin, wider than any other WC. Mainly because MW hasn't too many guys coming up, but Weidman is the real deal. Based on the WC itself, he's one of the few guys that is almost a guaranteed UFC champ in the future(Phil Davis is close but the existence of Jon Jones makes that iffy, next would probably be Michael McDonald at 135 followed by Charles Oliveira at 155) .

    Easy fight for him too.

Ring of Combat is a great mid level org to use as a stepping stone. Alot of really good fighters have gone through it.

I certainly thought a K1 Kickboxer could outstrike Robbie Lawler..but he sucks so I was wrong.

Not important..this is about Chris Weidman.

Needs more polish. Don't worry. Great debut considering the calibre of opponent, 2 week training camp, 1st ufc fight, and still being green in the sport.

Even Jones had a luke-warm debut.

I thought it was a great debut. Sakara isn't a world beater but he is a very good striker and I thought Weidman held his own in that department.

Good call. He is definitely the Top MW prospect in the world.

I agree, tough debut fight to go against a crafty veteran in Sakara. Especially with only what 5 fights? Nice workrate, solid debut.

Even with the experience factor, I always have a hard time picking Sakara. He is the model if inconsistency and always seems to fold.

Weidman came in on 2 weeks notice against a good technical striker. For his first fight in the UFC, he did pretty good against a man with a lot of experience in the Octagon.

Not impressed. Dude laid on Sakara the whole time and never once even thought about trying to finish the fight. Seems like watching him fight will be a great cure for insomnia.

Ummm, I'm pretty sure Sakara didn't become a bloody mess from lay and pray.

And you need to watch that fight a little closer. Weidman tried several times to get in position for an arm triangle from side control. Sakara is a BJJ blackbelt under Roberto Almedia and isn't an easy guy to submit.

He WAS in position for an arm triangle, he never once actually tried to apply the choke. NOT ONCE. I'm not saying he didn't land anything at all, but the dude should have tried to finish.

Realizing I'm being a bit harsh here, let me say that it was a good win for a guy with only 4 fights previous to this one. He has plenty of room to grow as a fighter, hopefully he works on subs from side control.

That's what I was thinking/hoping. But remember TLC hypes a lot of fighters so it's not incredible that one actually pans out.

But Weidman is good. 5 fights in and the guy looks comfortable on his feet versus a good striker and he is just sick in the wrestling department. The sky is the limit for this guy. Personally I was shocked that he was even thinking arm triangle from side control. I figured with 4 fights and against a veteran, that he would just look to keep control and pound away.

I was thinking he may be hesistant about the subs though because Sakara was so slippery from the blood.

    B.S.

The dudes I've been hyping for months now are

1: Phil Davis(number one overall prospect in the sport bar none. He got the SAME "meh" reaction on the forum when he debuted."

1: Edson Barboza(Number 2 LW prospect behind Oliveira...not by much though)

    2: Chris Weidman

    3: Gunnar Nelson (Prodigy)

4: Hatsu Hioki (not a prospect but a surprisingly unknown ground wizard)

5: Michael McDonald (Star in the making)

You act like I've been hyping legions of bums.

It was a joke bro. Relax. I have actually given you props on a few prospects you've pointed out.

Wow, this guy is really good. He won a boring decision over a guy that got taken out in 1 round by Leben and Alexander.
