In your opinion, of course. Limit it to just ONE film per poster. Don't come up with a list of 12 favorite titles. Just THE GOAT.

If we combine films then can we say that James Bond (all 20 films) is THE greatest action film? or all Star Wars episodes (which tells a single story) is THE GOAT?:scared:

No we cant say that about James Bond, because since Daniel Craig has become Bond, it was revealed that James Bond has not just been one man. That all the previous bond's have indeed died and new 007s have been formed. So its not just one film.

This is a really hard question and my answer probably changes each day. I think I will go with Forrest Gump. Great emotional movie with an incredible compilation soundtrack.

The Godfather and Shawshank were great movies, but I wouldn't consider either to be the best ever.

Have you seen Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance? Have you seen Battle Royale? Tale of Two Sisters, Tae Guk Gi, A Bittersweet Life, Guns & Talk or JSA?

I've not yet seen Tae Guk Gi, a Bittersweet life and Guns & Talk, seen the others. Didn't really like Battle Royale (it's kind of an 'empty' movie outside the shock factor IMO), the others were excellent. I do agree with you that some of the best movies come from Korea nowadays.

Ok, IMO the GOAT is Gone With The Wind and here is why:

The movie was a milestone in many ways when it was released in 1939.
1.The first full blown color movie. Cupid Angling from 1918 is recognized as the first, but it was colorized from black & white; The Wizard of Oz released also in 1939 used the color as a gimmick since it started as a black & white movie. GWTW was shot in majestic technicolor and it still holds well to this day.
    2. The first megablockbuster. It hold the box office crown from 1939 until 1965 when The Sound of Music beat its box office record. That is a good 26 years of undisputed box office reign. To this date, no other film has sold more movie tickets than GWTW.
    3. A compelling story based on the Margaret Mitchell's bestseller which actually was better than the book.
    4. The two main characters are less than perfect, in fact they are morally dubious and do some really awful things; the two most unlikely lead characters from the 1930's era. The movie unites them not by the predictable love, but by pure monetary convenience (Scarlett O'Hara) and pure animal attraction (Rhett Butler). They don't end up with a happy ending (another first for that era's cinema). You root for Rhett, the rogue with the heart of gold and you wish someone shoots that betraying bitch Scarlett.
    5. The film is deliciously politically incorrect. When Ashley Wilkes vents nostalgia for the days of "cavaliers and cotton fields" and "high, soft Negro laughter from the quarter" you can only cringe. Still, a movie where the South is a wonderful Utopia destroyed by those damn evil yankees (SHERMAN!), and free slaves are as bad as vipers, is something you don't see too often from Hollywood. Still, the black actress that played the black nanny, Hattie McDaniel, became the first black actress ever to win an Oscar.
    6. First movie to use a curse word! "Frankly, my dear, I don't give damn!"
    7. Epic film made at the then unheard budget of...$4 million!
8.Unforgettable soundtrack score by Max Steiner.
    9. The film has been imitated and copied so much in all areas that when viewed now by younger audiences they might think what was all the fuzz about. But trust me: the whole film was like anything seen before in 1939.
    10. It's almost four hours length can be too long for short attention span modern audiences. Still if you love the film, you don't mind at all the talkie slow pace and lack of action.

Do you mean Friend? I ask, because there are so many movies we could be talking about a different one. The one with the 4 friends who basically come apart as they older? If so yes. I thought that movie was terrific. Dong Gun from Tae Guk is in it.

I loved oldboy more than any other movie, but i though sympathy for Lady Vegeance was an all around better movie. Oldboy is my favorite tho.

agREED, though I like both of them a lot.

GoodFellas is my choice, though I'm sure I'm confusing "best" with "favorite."

I liked it a lot, and tend to watch it whenever it's on, but never saw it as a GOAT-type film. Hell, it wasn't even the best film of 1994.
