Which is a better movie? I'd say Seven. Great ending aside, The Usual Suspects is somewhat overrated.
Both are great movies...The Usual Suspect was a 9/10 while Se7en was a 8.5/10...... Brad Pitt was an annoying whining little bitch....Kevin Spacey was on it for 15-20 minutes and stole the show/movie...
Seven. Didn't like Usual Suspects after the initial viewing, didn't get Usual Suspects after the initial viewing and haven't bothered to watch it again.
Looks like a near-even split at a glance, we're right down the middle on this one. I can't get into Pitt as an actor, just never appreciated him. That said, Se7en was a truly fantastic film, but as someone said, The Usual Suspects had exceptional acting, a great cast, with an unforgettable closing, & had several actors I'm a fan of (Spacey, Pollack, Del Toro, Byrne, Palmenteri, Hedaya, & my all-time fave, Postlethwaite).
This is where I'm at. IMO, it's close only because Brad Pitt ruins what otherwise would've been a truly great movie. I have no real opinion of him as an actor - he's too inconsistent for me to say whether I like him or don't - but he was God-awful in this. The ending scene could've been epic but he completely fumbled the snap. Conversely, the ending for The Usual Suspects is nearly unrivaled. The rest of the film was good, perhaps very good, but a bit short of great. Side note: I wonder if Kevin Spacey still would've been nominated for The usual Suspects had he initially taken the acting credit for Se7en. Unless I have the story wrong, pretty sure he was never given a film credit until the DVD version, for the sake of keeping his character's identity a secret. A lesson I guess learned when the he-she from The Crying Game was nominated for Best Supporting Actor, thus ruining the surprise in that film for those who hadn't yet seen it.
