Their primes being roughly twenty years apart. Does anyone have a strong feeling on this? They had two very distinct similarities, in being hard-hitting punchers with a knack for timing & precision. Arguello was greater, Tszyu, bigger. ?
Tszyu is definitely thicker, so I guess that qualifies him as bigger. But I get the hunch that if Arguello fought in the era of day-before weigh-in, he could easily stroll into the ring at nearly 160 on fight night. Conversely, Tszyu could be at a disadvantage in a same-day weigh-in era, although I don't suspect he'd struggle to make weight. I don't know - perhaps an unconventional pick since he was post-prime at 140 and most only associate his time there w/ the Pryor fights, but for some reason I can see Arguello kicking Tszyu's ass in this one. Not a one-sided beatdown, but the type of fight where once Arguello is in control, he stays there.
Agreed. Honestly, Aaron Pryor - IMO the finest 140lber ever - went life and death with Arguello in a fight where he was obviously cheating.
Arguello wins a wide but competitive decision. I don't think Arguello applies the sort of pressure that Tszyu hates, and the relatively contemplative nature of Arguello means Tszyu would have time and would land his share. For instance, Ricky Hatton would get beaten handily by Arguello, but Tsyzu, given time, could pick shots, upstairs and downstairs.
