Dude looked like shit last night. Yes, SOME of it was rust. But alot of it just has to do with being faded. Ward, Bute, Froch, Kessler, and Dirrell would all beat the living shit outta him.
agREED... Pavlik CLEARLY Won the Fight, but it was MUCH More of a Struggle than it Should've Been...Alfonso Lopez ISN'T the Quickest Handed, Most Mobile or Athletic Fighter Out there in ANY Way, Shape or Form...Yet he was Regularly DRILLING Pavlik w/2 & 3 Piece Combinations...If Lopez Had More Pop, he'd have DROPPED Pavlik for Sure & Possibly WORSE... Pavlik's Defense was AWFUL...MargaritaESQUE, in Fact...He was Slower than MOLASSES & his Power Clearly DOESN'T Follow him to 168...This was @ Least his 3rd Fight @ the Weight & He HASN'T Even Flirted w/STOPPING Anybody.... Froch, Kessler, Bute & Abraham Would ALL Likely STOP Pavlik...Ward & Dirrell COULD, but they'd Both Probably "Settle" for Completely SCHOOLING him 12 Rounds to ZERO...Glen Johnson BEATS him...Hell, even Allan Green Would Probably Have to B FAVORED Over Pavlik @ this Point...& it's a Damn Shame...Pavlik's Had a VERY RESPECTABLE Boxing Career, but he Could've Been Sooooooooooo Much BETTER than he Was & Waaaaaaaaaaaay More IMPORTANT to the Sport Overall, than he'll End Up Being... Pavlik's a LIKABLE Cat & REED WANTED Him to Look Impressive Last Night...Unfortunately, he was Anything BUT that...Hopefully it was the Layoff, but like Brother X, REED DOUBTS It... REED:doh:
Funny you mention Margarito. What I've seen of Pavlik from last night, it actually reminded me of when Margarito fought after more than a year out of the ring. Even if he looked good, I still don't see him doing much at 168
No. Nice try, but no. Allen Green is an ESPN2 fighter, who has the chin of an accountant. Even THIS Pavlik would stop him. Only differance is, he'd stop Green late. Whereas a prime Pavlik would stop Green within 4-5.
REED Obviously WOULDN'T Rule it Out, he's Just Saying he'd Lean Towards Green...That'd Actually B an ATTRACTIVE ESPN2 Main Event or Opening Fight of a Regular HBO/Showtime Broadcast..."Loser Leaves Town" Type of Vibe... REED:kidcool:
I wouldnt pick Green over anybody with a pulse. Kelly is over the hill... but he still has a pulse. But at least we all agree that Ward, Kess, Bute, Froch, and Dirrell would all hammer Pavlik. Actually.... even a PRIME Pavlik loses to Ward, Kess, Bute, and Dirrell. Prime Pavlik vs Froch would be close to a pick em.
Arabham wouldn't beat Pavlik, he's been EXPOSED as the poor fighter many suspected he was. Curtains, a shut-out to Carl Froch means curtains I'm afraid :nono:.
But Here's the Thing...Say what U Will about Abraham, But Dude CAN Punch...& Pavlik's Defense is ABYSMAL!!!...Last Night, Pavlik's Defense was on a Margarita or Librado Andrade Level of SHITTINESS.... Abraham would Hit Pavlik ALOT...U Don't BEAT Arthur Abraham by ABSORBING Most of his Shots... REED:hammert:
Well, one thing is clear: Pavlik has no reason to quit now. Fight Green next and then fight Abraham presuming that Ward will beat Abraham. I'd guess that will be somewhere in the neighborhood of a million bucks to Kelly, right?
Pavlik did look awful, no question. For some insane reason Steve Dave thought he looked pretty good. There is still no fucking way I would pick Allan Green over him though ::
Pavlik indeed looked like shit. I'd also like to attribute it to ring rust but likely that was only about 10% of the issue. He's done as an elite fighter as even his power hasn't followed him above 160.
Which is pretty weird. How can you be a legit puncher at 160 and BIG for the weight, and your power be decidedly average at 168?
I think he's just slower at the higher weight, so his punches are easier to see coming and don't have the snap and velocity behind them.
Pavlik has never really been a "puncher" per say. He always had thudding power. Not the "snapping" devestating power that guys like Hearns, Jackson, and McClellan had. Problem is.... his punches arent as crisp, and dont carry the velocity now that they did in 07. I bet anything that Froch's cocky ass was watching the fight laughing. He'd lick his chops at the thought of getting Pav in the ring with him.
:: I thought he looked good in the mid-rounds... In comparison to how he looked in the early rounds. I agree that he's finished on the top level.
I don't agree. The guy he was fighting was TALL, southpaw and threw alot of punches. Hard to look good against such a character.
Ayyy Slisss,.. hows your lizard tank going?.. up to the brim yet mate?.. :bears: I'll be getting another slippery slug in a few weeks.
Hes had so many problems and been out of the ring so long that im not ready to say hes done. Top Rank need to get him active and they know how to match up guys.
Pavlik's best days are really behind him. Sure he won and came on strong in the end but he struggled more than he should have. Any of the top 168 pounders would beat him with the exception of maybe Green or Abraham whom are not that good.
The dude he fought was jittery and awkward and a fair bit faster than I though he would be. I think Pavlik underestimated this guy and was also pretty damn rusty. I think he had some moment where he looked like the old Pavlik, when he was walking the guy down and trapping him on the ropes. I also think Pavlik forgot how to cut the ring off, he was following too much and not cutting the ring off, and even when he did manage to trap the guy he didn't let his hands go. I'd like to see Pavlik take another low risk fight to shake the rust off before I write the guy off.
