CSAC voted 4-1 to suspend Chael Sonnen indefinitely. Career over.

I say good, fuck Sonnen. Quit trying to play the victim and own up to what you did. This is what you get for being a bitch about the whole situation. Guess the guy DOES need the testosteone, cause he sure as hell didn't man up. Just pointed the finger the whole way.

Funny quote from the hearing was when Chael said he had the testosterone level of a 93 year old man.

Well once you do that Hormone Replacement therapy, you can never stop. but isnt this suspension only 1 year?

If I'm not mistaken - and I'm going purely on the Margarito situation - in one year he'll be able to re-apply for a license. It won't be automatic.

    Yeah. Indefinitely doesn't mean permanently.

Plus, mind you, UFC works a lot different than boxing. Since they are doing cards all over the world, they can get Chael fights. 134 in Rio and 137 in Liverpool are options.

Boxing is the same. Margarito, for example, fought in Mexico while he didn't have a license in the States.

I wonder if the UFC will stand by the ruling.

I know that, what I meant is that because of the way the UFC is structured, Sonnen can basically go on business as usual, just without fighting in those jurisdictions.

Margarito would obviously have a bit of trouble getting people to follow him to Mexico, and an ever tougher time with promoters and networks.

    Good call.

It'll be interesting to see if the UFC basically says 'fuck you' to the CSAC and has him fight in other jurisdictions.

I doubt they care about him enough to do that.

It'd be different if it was somebody like Lesnar.

    Isn't CSAC just California?

All other major commissions try to stay on the same page in the States.

Chael Sonnen isn't valuable enough to the UFC to piss off ANY athletic comission.

Dana White already stated that if Chael was not licensed today, he was effectively retired.

Chael fucked it all up by lying to them the first time and basically trying to skirt around the issue and point fingers. The commission did not appreciate this so they decided to uphold the suspension indefinitely, which doesn't mean forever, but there is no time limit on it either so it very well could be forever if the CSAC wanted it that way. Also keep in mind that any other reputable athletic commission will uphold his suspension.

I expect to hear that Sonnen was released by the UFC very soon.

I would be absolutely shocked if the UFC tried to work around a suspension by letting Sonnen fight in Brazil or the UK. And I don't think they would do it for Lesnar or anyone else on their roster either.

I might be wrong, but it seems like a bad risk/reward scenario for the UFC.

I personally think it is great for the sport if a cheater like Sonnen is effectively banned for life for cheating and then lying about it.

It does a lot of good to deflect criticism for MMA for not punishing its fighters for drug use.

I agree, and it all comes down to how Sonnen handled the situation. If he would just say "I am sorry, I screwed up" during the first meeting with the CSAC, he would be walking out with a license today. Instead he lied, pointed the finger and made a joke of the whole thing. So he gets what he deserves IMO.

every figher who ''needs'' hormone replacement therapy shouldn't be fighting, or at least, make it fair for everyone and don't do any drug test. It's ridiculous that some are allowed to take steroids and some aren't just because some in house doctor find them some disease. Yeah right, Sonnen, with all his hs wrestling pedigree didn't produce normal level testosterone during his adolescence and early adult years

You mean Sonnen in your last paragraph? Margarito is loved in Mexico.

    No.

What does his popularity have to do with it?

You think big time fighters are going to want to fight him in Mexico? You think HBO is going to go ocher and cover that crap?
