I'm not sure what it is, but guys who fight with their hands down seem to struggle with allot of movement and being made to lead
I'm really glad Groves won and got the decision. I love it when underdogs perform better than expected, and watching James "Floyd Jr Jr" DeGale at every press conference etc put a bad taste in my mouth. A hideous retard.
He could knock them all out in the same night IMO. Different class of fighter. The farmer has proven, more than once, that he is genuine world class. MTF
:: the reaction when he thought he'd won and then watching his brain tick over to realise that groves was undefeated as well was actually hilarious.
Alright, by most accounts it was a relatively close fight - not the end of the world for Degale,.. :crafty: but when I read things in the round by round like,.. 'better ring-generalship'....(running around the perimetre) or 'cleaner, effective punches' (usually an excuse for inferior workrate with less punches landed)... I really do wonder wether Degale 'really' lost this fight or not.......
Groves actually had the better workrate, albeit fairly pathetic himself. He fought a cautious fight (yes, on his bike a lot), but was picking James off, confusing him, and landed more punches in pretty much EVERY round, even if some his own punchstats were extremely low. Trust me, George won. I scored it 8 rounds to 4 to George, and you could tell that even Frunk Werren himself didn't really think DeGale won.
DeGale won the fight. George was better than I expected but I still thought James won, quite clearly too. You know what though, anyone who wants to take shots, take them, I stick by my words and Chunky's still my boy. No faith lost.
Wo had the centre of the ring the entire fight?? James was sloppy but he was the one forcing the pace
That doesn't mean anything really. Plasterito had centre of the ring against Pacquiao and was "forcing the pace" but who won that fight? :: I don't think James even forced the pace, he was too hesitant to do anything because of George's sharp jab and counter punches. Groves was the one actually dictating the (slow) pace and outboxing James. I thought Groves won clear as day.
I was surrounded by Groves fans, none of them thought their boy won. To be honest with you though man I'm not too bothered by it. I'm not gonna go into hiding or nothing and my sig will remain the same, Chunky's my boy and I still think he'll reach the top. Credit to Groves he done well, I just don't think he should have got the decision, I wish him all the best for the future
Well that's the key really,.. in that case^ I can see how you have him the winner,.. I just become a bit alarmed :crafty: when I hear some of the language people use to score for negative defensive fighters or strict counter-punchers/pot-shotters.
I agree. DeGale fought a "scared" fight. He reluctantly led without leading. Any time he let his hands go, he outworked Groves and put him in uncomfortable situations like in the 9th round. For some reason he never stayed on the gas pedal. He allowed Groves to dictate and counterpunch him.
This was a big West London boxing derby, it was HUGE round here. Nothing like it in a long, long time. And let me tell you, it hurts raw to be on the losing side ::, especially with the QPR-Chelsea angle, but I have to say I agree with you somewhat. Even though I thought Chunky done enough to win, he didn't step on the gas anywhere near as much as he should have, despite being in complete control when he put his foot down on the pedal and threw punches in bunches. Disappointing, but is rectifiable at his age, which people seem to be overlooking, like the guy has no ability to improve or something
Groves showed good Defence and good movement. If DeGale had any sort of a punch-rate he could have won. Rematch in 1 year or 18 months beckons. Could have gone either way.
I'll need to see it on TV but most of your opinions on here differ greatly from what most people were saying at the fight, the majority thought Groves was fortunate to get the nod but they were happy as DeGale is a tit
Exactly. The ironic thing is when he did kick it up a gear, he did make Groves uncomfortable and won those segments. He needed to apply way more pressure and fight a braver fight. Ultimately yeah, he let Groves dictate the (slow) pace and counterpunch. Slice, were these guys fairly casual fans? Maybe they were casual fans that don't really know how to score a fight, and you were influenced by their opinion. I expected James to win, I picked him to win, but I honestly thought George won clear as day. I mean I would have thought it was a total robbery if they gave it to DeGale. Hut is almost as big a fan of DeGale as you and even he thought George won. It doesn't matter that James was coming forward most of the time, it was ineffective aggression. He got outboxed plain and simple.
Yeah, Groves won close but clear for me too. DeGale didn't let his hand go nearly enough and he was rendered pretty ineffective for large spells by some good movement and counter-punching by Groves, who was better than almost everyone gave him credit for. MTF
