Groves IS better than I gave him credit for, absolutely.

I just don't think he won the fight.

He did mate, honestly. As MWS suggested, I think you were perhaps influenced by those around you because Groves won six rounds clear in my book whilst DeGale won perhaps four in the same manner (including r.9, which was the best round of the fight and DeGale won that big). It is no good coming forward if you are not throwing punches. That was the key.

What I would also say is that there is no great shame in defeat for DeGale last night. It wasn't a beating or anything like that- he just lost a close fight against a guy who showed glimpses of world class ability in his movement and his counter punching. Both are promising prospects IMO.

I'm still in deep shock that Groves was awarded that.

I had a pretty good view of the fight and believed DeGale was the one forcing the issue, with the more eye catching shots, winning the majority of the fight, but Groves did have his moments and made it tough for DeGale.

I couldn't have been that pissed watching the fight and from what I saw, DeGale won.

I'm surprised by fightbeaters reactions to the fight and verdict. I need to see this on tv later to get a more up close, reflective decision on the fight.

DeGale didn't throw enough. Groves is herky-jerky like Jermaine Taylor but we've seen some dolts fight on TV recently and he isn't one of them. He did show legitimately good defensive maneuvers. Even when DeGale got the best of the exchanges, it was usually off a headbutt and the blood in Groves eyes. DeGale landed a couple of the "bigger" shots but neither man was buckled. I agree with Warren, DeGale did "lose" it without really being beaten up, or out-fought. He was out-thought, and when you consider the morons working Groves corner, that says a lot. With the narrow nature of the win it all adds to the lucrative nature of the inevitable rematch. British boxing can be a pretty unimaginative place at times so they aren't going to turn down a chance to promote something which pretty much promotes itself.

It kicked off between Fury and Chisora at ringside. They had to be seperated.

I just watched it on tv and whilst it's definitely alot closer than I had it live, I still feel DeGale won it. He didn't commit enough though and needs to throw more. I still feel he's the better fighter and will go further

Respect is due big time to Groves. He fought well, showed good movement, made it difficult for James and did land some decent punches throughout.

I still had DeGale as the winner.

WHat we saw last night is, DeGales shortcomings aside, proof that quality sparring can at times be worth any number of fights. Groves clearly did benefit from taking his lumps in sparring from Dirrell. Who did DeGale have in as chief sparring partner?

Definitely. Dirrell is much faster and throws straighter punches than DeGale.

DeGale had been sparring with Cleverly. Not the ideal sparring partner before facing an opponent like Groves.

Yes it was, it shows you what wonderful things can happen when so little is happening in a fight that we can all get our messages off in time.

You know what, I have no idea. I didn't hear his name being called during the night, but I was at the bar for a few fights before going into the actual arena. He was due to face Rasani last night at the O2. I checked boxrec, but the result has not come through. Not too sure mate.

I've seen the fight on tv and was about to attempt to watch it again just now, but I haven't. It's too painful to watch to be honest. I'll probably watch it again in a few days time, once the healing has settled abit.

Did anyone see Groves interview on Sky Sports News? The presenter said to him "Here's a name for you, future fight, Stateside, Amir Khan. Fancy it?", Groves looked at him in bewilderment, said "I'm a bit big for him mate...", "Maybe then when you two are a bit closer in weight, maybe you could go down..."

Really fucks me off when they get presenters who clearly don't have a clue what they're talking about and/or haven't done their fucking research

Yeah I know, you see a lot of it with the Haye-Wlad thing, most people know nothing about boxing but they get on the hype wagon when the big fights come around, get a few stats in their head, and start to talk utter wank. Like the kid who asked me when Oscar was fighting Naz....:pointlaugh: . It isn't just limited to the Skybots either, Gareth A.Davies, who writes for the Telegraph tried to tell us, on Ringside, that Wlad was a "Gentleman Boxer" and that Haye was a "Warrior". Youtube has allowed any git to become an "expert".:boring:

I can't tell you how much money I stand to win when Wlad ices Haye and all based on the IDIOCY of people who read The Scum and listen to nothing but Sky Sports News. I've offered 5-2 on Haye to anyone who comes into my pub and asks for it. If Haye wins, I'm stuck for about eight grand. Thankfully, he won't.

You know, if people could actually call fights I would be a far cooler guy with them, but most of the time its like "X is gonna beat Y because X is cool and Y is boring" :scratcher: :dunno: Most of the journo's are just on an expenses ticket or waiting for the buffet to open so they sing the official line and lap it up while they can.

I don't think they're that far from the key, the Pacquiao era has reversed the theory of weight divisions as much as Hopkins has reversed the theory of age as a burden.

A clock, with syringes for hands in short. May aswell contemplate Groves - Khan, man-made monsters are trendy, Annie Lennox said as much 15 years ago, like when you drop a bit of tin on wet soil, ya pick it up in a mere month or so and you'll have all sorts of advantageous trogladons, wrigglers, nippers channelling around, ............but in boxing, you've got the green glowing orb of HG Wells himself shuddering the iron,..an ungodly exhibition lies within.
