Lewis could do you in the 12th, 11th, 10th, Mike had not a lot in the line of late-round power. I do feel Lewis was a bit clunky. Tysons stoppages were easier on the eye. Anyone with an appreciation of blunt-force would appreciate Lewis. Just for sheer bone-density inspired bludgeoning, I like Lewis.

Lewis fought and stopped better men than both Tyson did, and Tyson himself.

Exactly. Rahman and an exhausted & shot Tyson (who had stood up to similar shots for the last 5, 6 rounds) are all I can think of.

I think Lewis was the better fighter (it pains me to say that) and I even think he was the more dangerous KO artist in terms of getting guys out of there. But he did it by ONSLAUGHT the majority of times. He'd jump on a guy and overwhelm them with barrages of shots. It was like a tornado spinning apart a kansas barn. You can kinda see bewilderment on guys faces, they dunno where the shots are coming from.

Tyson would take guys senses away from them more with single shots. Make their legs go. You don't see that quite as often with Lewis.

The difference isn't massive, but I think Tyson has a legit edge.

We seem to all agree that LL's best punch was harder than Mike's best.

As far as I know. I guess it doesn't count because Lennox got better leverage on his right hand.

    Lewis 73 ko percentage.
    Tyson 76 ko percentage

    Lewis 44 fights/225 rounds = 5.1 rds per fight
    Tyson 56 fights/217 rounds = 3.9 rds per fight

    Lewis ~18 no-hopers
    Tyson ~22 no-hopers

I think Tyson was the harder puncher and I think the stats and my eyes back that up. It's possible that Lewis' right was a harder punch than anything Tyson threw, but I don't think so. Where it gets a bit messed up is that Tyson deteriorated in his career whereas Lewis went out on top.

yup. Tyson has had how many first round KOs? And many of them looked harder and better than the Rachman KO.

Not really. Vitali might be the best either stopped, but it wasn't a ko.

Tyson has a shitload of guys on his resume including some who never came close to getting stopped by others.

I wouldn't like to get punched in the face by either of them.

They both might kill you, or send you into ICU.

It's frightening to think the type of damage they could do with their bare fists.

Lewis was a naturally heavier-handed man whose mass and technique generated his power. Tyson relied on speed and accuracy and a very defined style. Lewis was naturally punching harder towards the end of his career- he has still on top, thanks to having had a better career and possessing a style which tended less towards declining over time than Tysons. Lewis height and leverage did not decline over time. Tysons timing and reflexes did.

I'd be in a bad state taking a whack from either of them, but if there's a single punch from either mans repertoire that would have the piss streaming down my leg faster than the others it would be the Lewis right hand

Tyson for me. When the speed and timing were gone, the power remained. There may be a tendency to favour Lewis for some because he didnt have as much in the way of combos, but that should not detract from Tysons raw shot.

That said Lewis' overhand right was a monster shot, so Im not surprised hes getting some votes.

Yup, Tyson was so much more powerful than Lewis. Not even sure why this is even up for debate. It's so evident! Tyson was so powerful that even the wind generated from the swinging of his arm would cause 230lb tanks like Bruce Seldon to crumble like piles of sh*t. Lewis never managed to do that. Therefore Tyson is the much much much much much harder puncher!

Think Tyson had a better left. Lewis and Tyson probably equal on the right and maybe the uppercuts. Think maybe Lewis uppercut was more devastating just because of his size and leverage. Was handy having those really long arms.

Reed's post doesn't make sense. He's disrespecting Lewis' punch arsenal except for his overhand right. Lewis had power in both hands. What about the left jab...the uppercut?

It's better than it would have been five years ago, and it will continue to improve. One by one, Tyson's gay fan boys are approaching the light. :bears:

Tyson was the more effective in KOing people, whereas Lennox hit harder with single shot, meaning that his overhand right was harder than anything Tyson threw, yet Tyson caught people better.

The weird thing is, nearly everybody seems to agree with that, yet the poll is tied
