It's a shame they didn't fight during the same era because this would have been a nice scrap. Oh wait... They did, and Manny got Hearns a fight with Duran instead of McCallum. Nevertheless, it would have been a fun fight. McCallum at that point in time at 154 was near unbeatable. He had the ability to take away his opponent's will. Whether it was the devastating body work or just his constant pressure, McCallum always won the battles of attrition. 154 was a weight class that wasn't particularly welcoming to Duran. He lost to lesser fighters at the weight. I don't think there was anything in Duran's arsenal at 154 to combat McCallum's draining attack, defense and power. In 1984 at Junior MW, McCallum stops a wilted Duran late.
That should end this thread right here. I'm not even certain Duran makes the final bell. Once you start talking about the really great 154lbers (& McCallum is my pick for the best in all of history), you have the beating of Duran. Just a bridge too far.
