http://naafs.biz/site/2011/06/14/miocic-signs-multi-fight-deal-with-ufc/ If you've read my top 5 prospect articles, ya'll already know what the deal is. Still, surprised and not surprised at this move. Surprised in that Stipe, in my opinion is still very green(and understandably, he's had a very short MMA career) and I thought he'd need some time to develop, but also not surprising in that it is the HW division, and with such a highly rated prospect, you throw him early and basically have him learn on the job. The UFC has already done this with guys like Schaub and most notably Cain Velasquez.
I don't know how anyone can discount Miocic as a prospect. The guy was the 2009 Cleveland 201+ division Golden Gloves champion. He was a top 10 D-1 wrestler at 197 lbs.. And the dude played college baseball and probably could have played professionally. From what I've seen, he likes to keep it standing and is a thudding puncher. It will be interesting to see how he progresses in the UFC. Thanks for the prospect report on this dude before TLC.
I've watched video of 3 of his fights and I agree that he keeps his chin out and high. But I also think it's reflective of the non-threatening opponents. I guess we'll see. But I wouldn't sell him short. It looks like he moves well on his feet and his hands are fluid.
