Valhalla Rising - I believe this is a Dutch film, but it's in English, not that there's very much dialogue anyways. Starring Mads Mikkelsen. Anyways it seems to be set in Viking/Norse culture, about the time it began to clash with Christian culture, with a little bit of Native American thrown in there for good measure. Mikkelsen plays a bad-ass slave, who may be a god, may not be a god...........who knows. A lot is kept open for interpretation in this movie. He doesn't say a single word in the entire film.............as a tribute to his acting, he didn't have to. I'm guessing most will hate it...............I really liked it. Very slow moving with occasional quick bursts of extreme violence. Plays like a trippy existential Viking nightmare of some sort. Definitely low budget, but nice visuals and great cinematography. Imagine if Stanley Kubrick and Werner Herzog spit out a low budget baby about Vikings.............this would be it. 7.5/10 <iframe src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/A-X6tgvAc4A" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="349" width="560"></iframe>
He led them to North America, maybe as a sacrifice, maybe because they were Christian, I don't know. It all seemed pre-ordained and part of his journey............but yeah, open to interpretation. They were all pretty fucking lost, so maybe it was the directors intention to have the audience fucking lost to. ::
I bought this movie about 5 months ago. I liked it but I can see where some people wouldn't. Mads was a bad ass. I never thought about it being pre-ordained or that he was possibly a god. It was trippy though. I need to watch it again because the first time I didn't know what to expect.
