Woodhall enraged. Says no way Macklin lost. Gave it to Mack by 2 rounds. Says Macklin maintained his workrate. Richie says anywhere else but Germany, its a Macklin win. Johnny much the same, less enraged, but says Macklin by 2. Says Sturm couldn't handle Macklins power- despite the fact that Macklin landed no power shots to the head as I saw it. Richie is just angry over the beating Markus Beyer gave him. :: Johnny Nelson: Macklins work-rate was "King". Richie Woodhall: "No surprise what happened. The Germans rob you" Richie and Johnnie on Klitschko vs Haye "blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah" Wow. Richie Woodhall really is a stupid stupid cunt.
Of course, you know what the next routine is: David Haye: "I will avenge Macklin and defeat these evil German thieves".
http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12183_7005256,00.html Judges deny brave Macklin German champion paces his defence almost perfectly Birmingham's Matthew Macklin failed in his brave attempt to claim the WBA middleweight title from veteran champion Felix Sturm in Cologne. Sturm got the better of a split decision which was probably just about right, two of the judges preferring his quality work to Macklin's all-action aggression. The 29-year-old Macklin looked on course for a stunning victory in Sturm's home town after getting the better of the opening six rounds. Coming into the fight on the back of a five-year, 11-bout unbeaten run, Macklin looked full of confidence as he dominated with his all-action style. For his part, the 32-year-old Sturm appeared to be showing signs of age as he absorbed solid punishment in the early exchanges. Macklin's body shots in particular were doing the damage as Sturm attempted to soak up wave after wave of pressure on his arms and gloves. But as the fight wore on Sturm gradually began to assert himself. The former WBO champion, currently in his second spell as WBA champion, was taking part in his 16th world title fight and had clearly paced himself for 12 rounds almost perfectly. Macklin's pace dropped after the eighth and Sturm's quality shots began to catch the eye. Macklin continued to trade blows but the best punches were coming from the champion. Sturm finished the fight with an impressive attacking flourish and a packed arena were on their feet to acclaim him the victor. Shortly afterwards two of the three judges chimed their agreement, scoring the fight 116-12, 116-112 to Sturm, with one judge giving it to Macklin 115-113. ******************* Whoever wrote that should go down to Whitehall and ask for a job in the Ministry of Disinformation. "Judges Deny Macklin......Split Decision Just About Right........Blocked on Arms and Shoulders.....Chocolate Ration Increased to 25g Daily from 35g Daily"......:shit:
We have a German forum?? :cheer: I don't know...as I saw it, Sturm won the 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th. Macklin was bashed up at the end of the 12th, another 10 seconds and he could have been stopped. It now seems to be a well established routine- go to Germany, try hard, drop a decision, claim you were robbed, get a pat on the back from sympathetic people.
I was here for the RBR: been stuck in the friggin pub all night and didn't have time to put up a stream, so I haven't seen the fight yet and will watch a repeat in the morning. Sounds like I missed a good affair. MTF
I missed the first 2 rounds and on the basis of what I did see, it was a very good fight, I think the Macklin/Sky response is reactionary and over-stated. Macklin has given a particularly bad account of himself in the post-fight interviews, I had him winning very very little after the 6th and the guy was close to going out in the 12th. I would like to watch the fight in full to give a card but I from what I saw, Macklin would have needed both the first two rounds to get a draw. Jim Watt had it even. http://www.skysports.com/video/inline/0,26691,13273_7005299,00.html
It could have gone either way, Sturms finish pulled it out, he was landing some cracking shots in the last 6. Was fair and I have no complaints, fantastic fight though.
agREED Slice. Sturm offered Macklin a rematch, whereupon Macklin said "if he thinks he really won, do you think he would be offering me a rematch" :scratcher: If Sturm thought he really lost, the last thing he would do is offer Macklin a rematch. Sturm thinks he won, likes what he saw and thinks he has figured out Macklin, hence rematch offer.
You have to love it. You have to love it. By Gabriel Montoya Lightning struck twice on Saturday as Matthew Macklin lost a hometown decision to middleweight titlist Felix Sturm in Germany and Missouri joined the party by gifting home state favorite Devon Alexander a split decision over Lucas Matthysse in a ten-round HBO-televised fight. :: Import a "controversy" from elsewhere with a view to deflecting criticism from your own. Make no mistake about it, only one fighter got jobbed, and it wasn't Macklin.

Nah I missed that. I had the Macklin vs Sturm fight even after 6 now that I have watched it. You need I think to watch it with the volume down ::
Entertaining fight, cant blame macklin for thinking he deserved it but it was close...had it a draw but sturm showed benefit of experience down the stretch, macklin made the same mistake as the moore fight, blowing his wad a bit early
Not only did he blow his wad, but he blew his rather limited wad. Macklin really is an average fighter. His best wins are over an ancient Yory Boy and a very finished Asikainen, you can throw in Wayne Elcock too, years after Arthur Abraham got through with him, and years after somebody called Lawrence Murray had knocked him out in 1 round.
I remember when Lawrence knocked out Elcock in one. Freak punch, really weird. Elcock had dominated Farnell to win the WBU strap, then got sparked by Lawrence, then Farnell battered Lawrence in 3. I think Elcock beat the shit out of Lawrence a few years later as well. Anyway, I'll say this, agreed that Macklin doesn't pace himself well at all in big fights, but I was quite surprised by his handspeed, he's no Roy Jones but he's not a slouch by any means
Matt needs a few strings to his bow. He needs to learn how to go walk-about, take time off, launch an attack. He tries to win all of the round all of the time. Its a bit obvious and even worse, it saps him.
Sky had it a draw :dunno: Another round, or even just 30 seconds in the 12th, and Macklin might have gone out.
Agreed, he is very average...which is why I wasnt terribly looking forward to it..as a homer, if macklin won it would be a good story but he wouldnt hold on to it very long. Sturm is slightly better but middleweight is pretty crap right now, a very good junior middle is the best out there
Macklin gave everything you would expect of him. He's not world class but he is a game lad, unlucky not to eek out a decision in the end. That was very close, a round either way..
Plesantly surprised by how well Macklin acquitted himself- Sturm isn't very good but I thought he'd hammer Matt but I thought it fairly close. A round either way wouldn't have been amiss I think. MTF
this was one hell of a fight. probably the best sturm fight i've seen. his ribs were red after the first round. looked like he was ready to go after 5 rounds. good thing that old ass winky didnt fight this macklin cat. he would've been punished into retirement.
