Mosley hadn't won a fight in 2 years and the fight with Manny done 1.4 million confirmed buys. Mayweather is much bigger than Shane. Silva-GSP wouldn't even do a million real buys. Mayweather-Pac is 2 million buys minimum.

May-Pac would do ridiculous numbers. May-Ortiz will be huge let alone May-Pac.

It would be pretty big. Not May/Pac big, but I think it would sell well.

Even if you are technically correct, you are really wrong.

Even if pacq/may would be a relatively big fight if may lost to ortiz, when you compare it to what it would have been without a loss by Mayweather, it's a fucking disaster.

The best thing for boxing would be

cleaning up the multiple weight classes
    cleaning up the multiple organizations
have fighters that are willing to fight whoever is put in front of them
have fighters that are not afraid to lose a stupid 0 in the loss column.
make pay per views with great cards, instead of shitty ones.

That's a start. everything else is just a fucking bandaid.

I dont see Floyd suffering as much from slowing down physically as Roy did

Floyd is really a technician, he reminds me of a more-offensive minded Nicolino Locche when he is fighting off the ropes... their defensive styles are VERY similar... timing is important and speed is a component of that, but its more about knowing your opponent, knowing what you can and can't take for granted, that's what Floyd (and old Nicolino) relies on the most, that knowledge, that ability to slow down time, think two seconds ahead of everybody else... the greatest defensive fighters all had that (Whitaker, Pep, Locche, Floyd, Harold Johnson (except Jones, whose style was completely strange and reliant largely on his amazing physical gifts -- but it was just as effective in its way when he was a young man) )

Bottom line is that if Mayweather is the same guy he was the last couple of times out, he beats Ortiz with room to spare

we need 8 weightclasses now more than ever with

    A) the incredible lack of depth in the sport
    B) the ridiculous horseshit of weight games and drying out where lightweights are 153 pounds on fight night
    C) the absurd proliferation of championship belts to the point where they are now largely meaningless

And keep in mind, I am not even suggesting in the least that Silva-GSP touches an undefeated Mayweather-Manny. That's ridiculous.

But if Mayweather gets knocked silly by Ortiz or clearly dominated, it significantly reduces the luster of a Floyd/Manny match.

I may be putting too much significance on Floyd's undefeated record, but I think that's part of his greatness to an extent. If you remove that ZERO combined with his age and inactivity, he's just a good opponent.

If Mayweather slow down a bit or even a lot...he will still be as good as Juan Manuel Marquez....so his odds of beating Pacquiao are still very good....

Yeah, GSP had a live gate of 55K and PPV buys in the 800,000 -900,000 range against Jake Shields, who few outside MMA knew, but a Silva-GSP fight won't do 1 million????

Please, this kid is silly with hate.

I disagree, the best thing for boxing would be for the continual advocation of stringent drug testing,.. and stop the 'chemical race' in professional boxing. May Floyd continue to fight and win for as long as possible.

Throw em in the trash Niel. That's the best place for them. Don't ruin somebody else's life by giving them tickets to attend a Fraud F*ckweather fight.

Is he? Could've fooled me after the double piece of sleep-inducing sh*t called F*ckweather vs Bumdomir and F*ckweather vs shot inactive Oscar who came only for a huge payday. Not that GSP is all that entertaining either but the race is pretty close in terms of both of their value, entertainment-wise.

Very true. Remember how Buster Douglas became a star after Tyson??? He took Tyson's spot in refereeing WWF's Friday night main event!! After the choke job against Tucker, Douglas wasn't even a fringe contender.

GSP is a nobody compared with Floyd. Floyd makes 40,000,000 per fight. GSP has never seen a 7 figure cheque before.

Someone is paying Floyd $40 MIL to fight Ortiz?

I know he made somewhere around $40 for the Mosley fight with the PPV bonus. But he didn't make anywhere near $40 for Marquez.

So really, saying Floyd makes $40 million per fight is just the typical disregard for facts the we always see from RJJ.

His post should have read: Floyd MADE around $40 million for 1 fight.

And yes, Mayweather is a huge draw. He can earn far more money than GSP. GSP likely has never seen over a million dollars from a single fight. Maybe, but doubtful.

But on the flip side, I've got to watch GSP fight the top 170 pound challengers in the world 6 times over the last year and a half. And Mayweather? Yeah, well, we get to see him against a highly unheralded opponent after doing nothing for 16 months.

I don't think I need to point out which one I prefer. One is making a sport grow in leaps and bounds while the other represents almost every single thing that is wrong with boxing.

one is a guy who has earned his way to the top of a sport through a dozen years of hard work and being fairly compensated. the other is a guy in the midst of doing something similar while being exploited financially.

So all main eventers in MMA and boxing should make 40 million? Yeah because Mayweather's career is what we want fighters to mimic correct? Shut the fuck up kneel.
