Judah is a strange one, and one of the best examples IMO.

Elite talent, yet almost journeyman esque mentality and fighting spirit.

    Great example.

Vitali looks so awkward and amateurish in there...but there is no denying that the guy is world class.

    He gets the results.

Out of all of Vitali's opponents, Lewis was the only one who was able to reach his chin. And even then it was difficult. As the fight wore on, Lewis found his footing and rhythm and was managing to catch Vitali fairly flush, opening up a few wounds. Don't think anybody before or since has ever managed to touch Vitali's face other than the one big shot Sanders landed against Vitali in the first round. Vitali really uses his height advantage very well.

Hes 40 years old & throws a punch like a 16-year-old amateur. Wlad looks like Joe Louis next to big bro. Only thing Vit does better is take a pounding. Im not impressed in the least.

Wlad would beat him hands down.

Nah, Vitali is effective and he doesn't have to hold onto a guy like he's his girl everytime a punch comes near him

Vitali is tough, he's a man in the ring... Wlad isn't tough enough to beat him

You mighty stop viewing his fights through your preconceptions and start paying more attention to what's actually happening in there.

Wlad wasn't very effective against Sanders or Peter (the first time). Vitali breezed past them.

Vitali and Wlad sparred once. It got intense. Vitali got hurt by Wlad so they stopped and never sparred again. Wlad could take him.

I wouldnt call that fair, Wlad has beaten better competition over their careers, and has bested 50 of 53 opponents.

Im not especially defending Wlad (a legitimately good boxer, who is nowhere near great), I just have not been impressed once in 10 long years of watching Vit. It frankly floors me the level of respect he is afforded.

Vitali batters his bums with ease and never looks troubled

Wlad has been iced a few times, he's fell on his ass 3 times against the same blubbery slug (Peter) that his brother chopped up like an onion... He had troublesw with Davarryl Williamson for fuck's sake... Joe Mesi iced him in a round... when Wlad gets punches thrown at him a look of panic comes over him like "Hey! You aren't supposed to do that!" and then he holds on like a vise

Vitali would punk his brother, take the heart right out of him

You have to look past his punching technique Ramonza, you're taking him at face value.

He's a skilled, clever boxer, who knows exactly what he's doing, and those awkward looking punches are surprisingly accurate.

It's like criticising Slappy Joe for his punching technique. Sure it doesn't look pretty, but has no bearing on his skill and overall ability.

Because he doesn't fit your preconception of how things should be done. He's never lost more than 2 rounds in a fight, I'd consider looking a bit harder for something to be impressed by.

Whatever. Vitali has never in his life impressed me. I couldnt miss his opposition.

He lost to the only quality rival he ever faced. It would happen again ie he had another quality rival. And again, and again, and again.

Jones, Whitaker and Ali did things unconventionally. I never denied they were fantastic fighters. Why not, if your point rings true?

It's all about results and Vitali gets them.

Like Hut said he barely loses a round in fights.

He also fought on even terms against the guy most people consider the best heavyweight of the modern era.

Because they had the opportunity to prove it uncategorically by having peers on their level to fight. Before Ali fought Liston he faced all the same criticisms you levy at Vitali and I'd bet big you'd have been among those voices if you'd been around. But he had the opportunity to prove himself. Vitali has only had one such opportunity, suffered a freak cut.

Is Vitali as good as Ali, Whitaker or Jones? Fuck no, but if he'd had sufficient competition I believe he'd have proven himself allot better than you think.

Vitali routinely puts horrific beatings on people without even putting mustard on his punches. He has a chin, he is massive, he can arm-punch you into reconstructive surgery and has a solid variety of shots. He has a fantastic sense of distance and is a good finisher. He is a legitimate live-body in ANY era.

Ramonza, the guy has a check-hook to beat all check-hooks. The number of guys including Lewis, that have walked onto his counter and lead left hooks is remarkable.

Well, that's your prerogative & of course we do not view fights of Klitschkos' & agree. Incidentally though, it's amusing to me that he suffered a, "freak cut," against his only A-class opponent. You see it as an abberation, I look at it as a symptom of a greater problem --- Klitschko couldn't get out of the way of Lewis' punches, because for once, he was faced with a live body. Predictably (as I said before the fight, & will say until I'm dead), with his massive, massive short-comings, he was beaten. & he'd be beaten again tomorrow if he faced another first-class rival. & again the next day, & the day after that.

His competition, said without exaggeration, makes Rocky Marciano's look pretty damn hot, & that says something...& always will.

The minute he stepped up, with his style & limited abilities, he would be beaten. That's the way I see the man before me. We'll never know for absolute certain who was right & wrong between you & I now, but you should be extremely grateful for that, Irish.

that's how I see it too... Vitali is a handful for anybody, he's huge, he is tough, he is awkward and he is busy with those weird arm punches of his, and it works

although, I should say I do NOT feel that way with regards to his little brother

Yes, Don Cockell, La Starza, these guys would take Sanders, Johnson, both Johnsons in fact, to the cleaners.

Stepped up??? Stepped up to what? A guy who is a consensus top 10 ATG heavyweight? Way to be exposed
