Of course they are saying that...don't forget, while Colin Jones may have been mediocre at best, he fought in the 80s....and despite not having any real HOF names on his resume, even the no names he fought would beat guys like Maidana of today just on pure toughness. They made them a lot tougher 30 years ago, that's for sure. Everyone know is a bunch of pansies. Oh, and Colin Jones had a punch, therefore he is infallible in MM.
oh and incidentally, boxing in the 1980s was so much better than right now, it's ridiculous to even make a comparison the talent pool was quite literally 10 times deeper if you guys want to live in a fantasy world where that isn't true, that's fine, but you are beyond wrong Amir Khan wouldn't go two rounds with Donald Curry... he might actually die
Kirkland Laing wasn't a no name, was knocked out twice by Jones He drew with McCrory and lsot a split decision to him I see you edited your post, probably looked him up somewhere since I know you are too ignorant to have ever heard of him
yes you did faggot, when I wrote the post you are quoting , that is EXACTLY what you had said before you scrambled back to fix it
The only thing this guy did was lose badly to a green Donald Curry...who is not the greatest thing since sliced bread contrary to popular belief.
no, I'd say it's pretty evident to anyone who actually knows anything about the sport prior to 2000... this is why it is a complete mystery to you The RING Rankings right now for Junior Welterweights: 1. Bradley 2. Khan 3. Maidana 4. Alexander 5. Kotelnik 6. Judah 7. Matthyse 8. Peterson 9. Erik Morales (a guy who was washed up several years ago) 10. Garcia Now, this is since Junior Welter became a bit more glamorous... much more than it was in the 1980s Still, let's take 1984 (and this, at the time, was not considered a very good division) The RING, 1984 Junior Welters: 1. Aaron Pryor 2. Billy Costello 3. Gene Hatcher 4. Ronnie Shields 5. Leroy Haley 6. Saoul Mamby 7. Patrizio Oliva 8. Gary Hinton 9. Rene Arredondo 10. Clinton McKenzie Now, that is in a time when the division was considered pretty ordinary, but given the choice between the two, I think the 1984 class is clearly deeper... certainly the very top is no contest Now, obviously you will just ignore all of this because you are ignorant and don't know who any of these people are (except Pryor, you've probably heard of him) Here's the pound for pound rankings for right now versus 1984 (again, just a random year from the 80s) Right Now: 1. Pacquiao 2. Martinez 3. Donaire 4. Marquez 5. W. Klitschko 6. Bradley 7. Wonjongkam 8. Segura 9. Ward 10. Hopkins 1984: 1. Marvin Hagler 2. Aaron Pryor 3. Larry Holmes 4. Eusebio Pedroza 5. Hector Camacho 6. Jeff Chandler 7. Ray Leonard 8. Michael Spinks 9. Tommy Hearns 10. Donald Curry Objectively, how can you not see that it's a wipeout? I know you are only 17 or whatever, but it isn't as if you are saying "well, I haven't really seen any of those guys so I can't really comment" ... your attitude is "I don't need to see them to throw around my baseless opinions" That's just ridiculous
You said he FOUGHT no names not BEAT, FOUGHT you edited the post AFTER I had already posted which is why I asked you if you believed Donald CUrry is a no-name YOU try again
"Green"? It was his FOURTH successful title defense, he was in no way, shape or form "Green" At the end of that same year, he had his most famous performance, the annihlation of McCrory How do you think Khan would do against Curry? break it down for me
yeah, but Curry fought in the Ice Age and Khan is happening NOW, and Bert Sugar probably said Curry was a good fighter so that means he sucked and cdogg only says hes good because he loves the 80s or something, Im not sure, I just stab in the dark, but Khan is too fast and handsome for Curry and he kills him because I never saw Curry fight, but he's old and old stuff is bad and I don't have any basis for syaing any of it, but Khan wins and Curry is old and smelly
:: Curry packed power. Khan would really need to avoid a counter left hook from him. The way he took out mcclory was impressive.
yeah, but McCrory was some scrub from the old days ... 1985, before they had cars and color television and planes and such:giggle:
But Khan is not an especially skilled boxer... he is a fast guy who fights upright and it looks athletic and impressive, but there are plenty of holes in that defense and plenty of limitations to that offense
