certainly an unnatural weight for delahoya at 135lbs. one he would never dream of under original weigh in regulations. chavez would destroy him there.
I do think its a fairer fight at 140 - Chavez was still prime there (early at 140) & it mayve been De La Hoyas best weight. So...
Chavez wins at LW and Oscar already beat him at 140 unless you think Chavez was totally past prime so you decided not to count it. The 140 Oscar vs. the Chavez that beat Taylor and Roger II would be a fantastic fight though
Chavez in his best years I would take at either weight. Their first fight I discount...Chavez was cut going into the bout...Oscar merely needed to touch him to open the cut. It would have been a tight decision due to Chavez starting slowly and Oscar fading late.
I could buy this, yeah. Chavez was a beast at LW, facing a brutal & dangerous, but highly inexperienced De La Hoya, while Chavez would appear to be a good deal slower, & smaller, at 140 --- a division I thought De La Hoya hinted at being his best.
Chavez would certainly beat DLH at 135. At 140, Oscar just "might" edge him out in points, but he'd no doubt feel Julio's pressure and relentlessness late. As an aside, i've rewatched DLH vs Ruelas and Chicanito recently, followed up and DLH vs JCC I and MAGO. I thought there was a significant leap in form and athleticism for Oscar from 135 to 140. He looked different. And all those fights were just about a year or so in span. Just an observation. DLH @ lightweight ain't ready for a prime Chavez. He'd get punished. I like both JCC and Oscar btw. They fought everyone there was to fight.
I'm a big fan of Chavez and while he was past it, I don't think he was totally shot, nor as washed up as people make him out to be in that fight. I still at worse see Oscar winning a decision over him.
DLH was really really good IMO.. almost underrated really. but at 135 i wanna go with Chavez... but i wouldn't rule out DLH
