Carl Froch believes Andre Ward will be out of his depth when they meet in the Super Six super-middleweight final in Atlantic City on 29 October.

Nottingham's WBC title-holder came face-to-face with WBA king Ward, from the United States, at a news conference in Essex on Monday.

"I have not been impressed with Andre and his level of opposition," said the 34-year-old Froch.

"He's fought good fighters but not at the level where we are now."

Former Olympic champion Ward, 27, responded: "I've been in boxing a long time, over 15 years. I know what he's doing, he has to minimise me, my accomplishments and achievements. And that's OK, I understand.

"When I started in this tournament everyone had questions about me, everyone had doubts. Now there are people who say I'm the favourite, but I don't feel that way - I still have that chip on my shoulder."

Ward, who is unbeaten in 24 professional fights, has indeed been installed as the bookmakers' favourite, but Froch said his rival did not have the power to trouble him in their unification bout.

"He has no power whatsoever," said Froch, who has been defeated only once in 29 fights, by Denmark's Mikkel Kessler last year.

"Sure, his hand-speed is fast but even he'll tell you he's not as fast as Andre Dirrell and I handled Dirrell quite easily."

However, it is Froch's split decision victory over Dirrell in 2009 - a fight some observers thought Froch should have lost - that has convinced some the Englishman may come up short against Ward.

The Super Six tournament is the brainchild of American broadcaster Showtime and began in 2009.

Froch had to beat Jermain Taylor, Dirrell, Arthur Abraham and Glen Johnson to get to the final, as well as lose to Kessler, while Ward has racked up wins against Kessler, Allan Green, Sakio Bika and Abraham.

"The final is what top sport is all about - we have the two best fighters facing off for it all," said Froch.

    **************

    :say:

Froch, much like Haye, thinks he has this won, genuinely thinks he has this won.

Whilst Froch is right about a lot of things, such as Ward being looked after every inch of the way, it remains the case that Ward, legally 'or otherwise, did beat Kessler, which Froch, narrowly or otherwise, did not.

Ward is a protected species. I know Panda Bears don't get the love he does.

How is Ward protected when he entered a tournament with supposedly the 6 best super middleweights in the world and is beating them while barely losing rounds?

Also, Froch unlike Haye will at least come to fight.

It's all hype man, what do you expect him to say? "Yeah, I'm happy to be here, but Andre will probably fuck me up". If he genuinely believes it, then fair play to the guy, he has earned the right to be there and you need confidence in yourself to succeed.

He's been kept in the shadows of British television for far too long, watching lesser fighters get all the plaudits and cashish whilst he is taking on the best there is time after time after time. Now he's on Sky he has the opportunity to make a huge payday, all power to him, it's his moment, and he's earned his place.

3 now....out of 5? Im not sure how that makes him protected. Jermaine Taylor got knocked out and essentially retired. And Andre Dirrell has some problems with his brain or something.

I fail to see how this is Andre Ward being protected and not just mere happenstance. It isn't like Ward would've lost to either of those fighters either.

He has fought 2 of the original 6, {with himself being 1}. Two. Kessler and Abraham. Froch will make it 3.

Froch has fought 4 of the original 6, Taylor, Abraham, Kessler, Dirrell. The fight with Ward will make it 5 fights with the original 6 entrants. Granted, Taylor was outside the remit of Super 6.

His substitute fighter was Glen Johnson. Wards were..... Allan Green/BIKA Green, as you know, was a KO victim of Johnson.

Ward also got bonus points when Dirrell bitched out. He got more points for NOT fighting Dirrrell than Froch did for fighting him. Then they tried to give Ward the WBC belt into the bargain, and Froch had to threaten legal action to get, not the belt, but a crack at the belt, via Abraham, whom he beat before Ward did.

I guess its pure happenstance that Froch fought Johnson whereas Ward fought Green and Bika??? Bika may not have been in proper, but still...

Ward is a protected American fighter. He is the Gerry Cooney of his era.

There is no fucking Way Froch can win a decision in America. NONE.

Just like Taylor, he will have to KO Ward.

    Bika  Green

I see Irish is already making excuses for when Froch gets his ass handed to him.

Precisely. Hence my expression that Carl was "running off at the lips".

Maybe THEN U'll Finally Give Ward his PROPS...

You do know that Ward/Taylor was already the agreed upon next fight when Taylor pulled out and was replaced by Green, right?

    So, yes, it's pure happenstance.

Perhaps that Diplome from Beaver Press University isn't cutting it....thread title clearly states that "Old Carl Froch Is Running Off At The Lips Again"....ironically, nobody here has been as earnest and as steadfast a critic of Carl Froch {principally his ceaseless whining} as I have.

However, I understand your moral panic. Haye was caned and then mocked after the fact, so its up to you Andre, its up to you.

None of this detracts from the fact that Ward has been ceaselessly and shamelessly coddled from beginning to end of this saga.

I asked a simple question. How many of them had he fought? The answer is 2.

    2.

Not to mention, of course, that Ward got MORE POINTS for NOT fighting Dirrell than Froch did for fighting him.

And they tried to set Ward up with the WBC title to boot.

    Coddled.

Green stepped in for Taylor, who was already scheduled to fight Ward next.

    What don't you understand?

And how does Ward get more points for not fighting? How many points did he get?

Was Ward being coddled when his first fight was against the guy everyone thought was going to win the tournament?

Montrez-Vous, Ma Petite Canadienne. Come out and fight.

If Ward loses to Froch, where does that leave you all?? :crafty:

I can sense a burgeoning moral panic on this one.

    Well Froch fought.

    Ward didn't.

I'd say one guy earned them and the other guy didn't.

    However that's just my $0.02.

We know that miles on the clock has played a pivotal role in this tournament.

No??? Disagree?? I know its a pure boxing point, so you might not be au fait with it.
