Was Yushin Okami really that good though? I saw a decent wrestler pretending like he could box. Again, a one dimensional fighter who was taken out of his element and defeated. I think it's obvious the real fight to make is Anderson Silva vs Jon Jones. Anderson has been to 205. The fight could be made immediately.
You tell me. He's fought some of the best in the world and ALWAYS looked competitive. Then he faces Silva and looks like a kid.
I don't know. I just didn't find Okami that impressive at any point. Even Dana White called it openly. He said Okami had no chance in hell. I never actually understood what Okami could possibly do in a fight with Silva. If you have no striking and no explosive power and speed, you can't beat a healthy in-tuned Silva. People were praying to see some Sonnen-type performance from Okami.
So you're basically using circular rationale. Since Okami doesn't have the skills to look good against Silva then he must not be very good. Okami was good enough to easily beat Marquardt and Munoz who are both guys that probably would have filled the #1 contender spot at MW if not for Okami. Simply put, Okami earned his shot by beating people. He was a legitimate threat at 185 and Silva just schooled him. It's just like Belfort. Silva destroy Vitor and the masses were screaming that Vitor was washed up and didn't deserve a title shot. Then one fight later Belfort knocks out the granite chinned Akiyama and people are proclaiming that the old Belfort is back. Bull shit. He's not back. He's just not fighting Anderson Silva. In relative comparison to Anderson Silva guys just don't look very good. However, against any other MW in the world, guys like Okami, Belfort, Sonnen, Maia, etc are among the top of the division. The gap is just so wide that they end up looking average compared to Silva.
Well that's your opinion. I'm saying I just never found Okami particularly good. You know you have real problems when your base is wrestling and yet you think you can stand outside and box.

Dude, you can debate it all you want but Munoz is currently top 10 at the weight and Marquardt was one of the 4 or 5 prior to the Okami loss. But here's a little exercise for you, go ahead and list the Top 10 MW's outside of Silva in your opinion. And I already know that Okami and Munoz won't be on the list so have at it...

It's funny when thinking about it because the list couldn't include Maia since Munoz beat him or Palharez since Marquardt beat him. Damn, remove Munzo, Maia, Palhares, Okami, and this should be a fun Top 10.
