Good for Dana though. Fuck Diaz. You work for UFC you help them promote the fights so they can make money. They're your employer stop acting like a fucking child. You don't like it Diaz ? Get the fuck out of mma or go fight for Bellator or some shit where they will put up with your bullshit cuz Dana sure as hell doesn't need your ass and your bullshit antics.

I like Nick Diaz, but he has got to be ome of the dumbest people on the planet. He lets 2 million dollars and a shot at the title slip away for nothing.

Nick Diaz trainer Cesar Gracie on UFC 137 removal: "He got what he deserved"

by Steven Marrocco on Sep 07, 2011 at 5:02 pm ET
[IMG]Cesar Gracie has known Nick Diaz for 12 years and has stuck by him in good times and in bad.

But when it comes to the UFC's decision to boot him from a fight with welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre at UFC 137, right is right, and wrong is wrong.

"I don't blame Dana White on this at all," Gracie today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). "This is a professional company, and Nick is a 28-year-old man."

Diaz no-showed a press conference today in Las Vegas promoting UFC 137. It's the second time he had done so in two days. A press conference Tuesday in Toronto saw St-Pierre pull double duty in promoting the fight and answering questions from the media when Diaz no-showed.

In Diaz's place goes Carlos Condit, who vacates a fight with B.J. Penn in UFC 137's co-main event.

UFC 137 takes place Oct. 29 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, and its main card, including the St-Pierre (22-2 MMA, 16-2 UFC) vs. Condit (27-5 MMA, 4-1 UFC) fight, airs live on pay-per-view.

White did not say whether Diaz (25-7 MMA, 6-4 UFC) has been released from the UFC, but Gracie said it wouldn't surprise him if that were the case. Shortly after he spoke to MMAjunkie.com, Gracie directly phoned the UFC president to apologize.

"I've stuck up for Nick, even when he was wrong before," Gracie said. "But he's let a lot of people down. He's let his team down. We all bought plane tickets to Vegas. We got hotel rooms booked, paid for. We've got all that, and Nick just decided not to go to something he's supposed to. They're paying him a lot of money, and in this economy where people don't have money, he's blessed. He should be thanking God every night how blessed he is.

"And instead, he's not getting on a plane to go to Vegas. I'm extremely disappointed. He's done a lot of stuff, but this is the worst of it. If I were him, I would be begging Dana White to get my job back and work your way up to a title shot at some point."

For the record, Gracie said he tried to get Diaz to the press conferences and on Monday left his son's birthday party to chauffeur the fighter to the airport for the gathering in Toronto. Diaz, however, left the gym before he could do so.

Gracie volunteered to go on the plane with Diaz, but Diaz said he wanted to go by himself.

"I'm not a psychologist," he said. "I personally think there's some kind of social anxiety happening here with Nick. Dana said, 'You've got to play the game this much.' And this isn't even playing the game. This is about being a man and being responsible. And Nick has done neither in this situation.

"He's a great jiu-jitsu guy. He's a great fighter. I'm saying this because I care deeply about the guy. He's one of my black belts. But in this situation, he is 100 percent wrong, and he got what he deserved."

Gracie is unclear on whether his relationship with Diaz will hold through the storm.

"At this point, I don't know what I'm going to do with Nick because he's not only disrespected the sport, he's disrespected me and himself," he said.

Gracie said he'll understand if the UFC cuts Diaz but hasn't heard either way.

"There's a lot of people in this world that work hard and show up to work, and they're grateful to have the job," he said. "And Nick is obviously one of those.

"I've barely slept in the last couple of days, and it's sickened me. Here's the opportunity that I've worked for for over 10 years, to mold a guy to become the best possible guy, and to show he can be the best guy in the world. And he takes this opportunity and he acts like an immature child about it.

"It's disturbing, to say the least. He got what he deserved by not taking this fight. He told everybody he would do whatever it would take to do it, he lobbied for it, and he acts like this. Dana White is 100 percent correct in what he did."

Pretty sure he just freaked out, Ceasar Gracie claims he has serious social anxiety. Which isn't surprising since he's always so damn awkward.

Cesar Gracie is one disloyal asshole.

You don't like what your fighter is doing? Then you should shut the fuck up and deal with it in private. Not by airing all of your gripes like a drama queen bitch.

What an idiot. If UFC boots him, it's either bellator, dream, or something else because he ain't getting signed by Strikeforce.

What is he supposed to say? He's been sticking up for Nick Diaz for 12 years, he was with Diaz trying to get him to the airport and he literally bolted out the back door. They paid for hotels and plane tickets for his entire camp to go to this fight, who's disloyal here? Diaz screwed everyone.

It's Diaz that is disloyal. Do you realize how this makes the Gracie Gym Look? Undisciplined. Discipline is the core of any martial arts gym. Gracie needs to say something. His reputation as a Mentor and Father of the Gym is on the line. I have a Friend that works Gilbert Melendez's person training crew and i haven't been able to get more than 5 minutes to talk with him. He says all guys came together to help Diaz and have been training non-stop for months. All guy's and their crew put their training on hold to help diaz for this fight. And he fucked them all.

Other than Anderson Silva-GSP, this was the next best thing.

Who knew Diaz was going to pull a Mayweather...at least Floyd didn't sign for the fight...

More quotes from Gracie on Diaz...

"I would have driven him to Vegas if it came to that. I don't care. He just turned his phone off and acted like a little kid."

"I don't blame Dana White on this at all," Gracie today told MMAjunkie.com (UFC blog for UFC news, UFC rumors, fighter interviews and event previews/recaps | MMAjunkie.com). "This is a professional company, and Nick is a 28-year-old man."

“He knew he was supposed to be at both of them, and didn’t get there. I spoke to him yesterday, and it was all about getting him to Vegas yesterday, and the last time I heard from him he was on his way to the airport. That’s about it,” Gracie explained.

“I was pretty pissed off when I first heard about this, obviously for our team, and personally it’s something I’ve worked for, for so many years. Bringing this kid from Stockton (Calif.) when he was 16 and making him this world-class fighter, and for him at this moment to do something this stupid, and not show up for something he was supposed to show up to, it’s very frustrating to me to say the least.”

Gracie actually called UFC president Dana White during the UFC 137 pre-fight press conference on Wednesday – one that Diaz was supposed to have attended – and spoke to him while the cameras were still rolling.

The conversation was brief, but Gracie could do nothing but apologize and sympathize with the choice the UFC had to make.

“He would have shown up and fought, (but) there’s just certain things you have to do when you’re a man, like promote the fight, and I think this goes to teach everybody no one is greater than the sum of the UFC. You have to have respect for people and organizations, and I think Nick didn’t do that.”

“I’m disappointed. When he was 16 it was one thing; he’s 28 now. He’s been like family to me, I’ve known him for that long, and worked with him so closely. Does it change our relationship? Well, he’s going to have to earn that trust back again is the way I look at it,” said Gracie.

“I know we all need more chances in life, we all make stupid mistakes in our lives. Nick has never had a real job, he doesn’t know what it’s like, like a lot of Americans have to do, get up work two jobs like a lot of us to put food on the table and here he’s given this opportunity, where he beats this guy it’s like winning the lottery and he doesn’t get on a plane to Vegas or Canada or whatever. You can’t do that. There’s no way you can do that.”

“I don’t feel sorry for him. I do feel sorry for people that bought tickets for him, his supports. He let my whole team down at this point. I feel terrible about it. I told Dana White I was actually embarrassed about this situation,” Gracie said.

“This is not what Gracie Jiu-Jitsu means to me in my whole thing about teaching. You’ve got to have responsibility; Nick has shown no responsibility when it came to this.”

Sad that Something Sooooo SIMPLE would Fuck the Entire Fight Up, but Diaz Only has HIMSELF to Blame...He was Pretty VAGUE in that Video Godfather Posted & Seemed Almost RELIEVED that the GSP Fight is Off..."Oh Well, Guess I'll just Box", was Basically his Attitude:lol:...

GSP is Popular in his Own Right, but Diaz was the PERFECT "Heel" to Compliment GSP's "Face"...Diaz Could've MAGNIFIED his Own Marketability w/Some Juicy, ESPN Worthy Quotes & Shittalk...

Now, he'll just B Known as the Guy who INEXPLICABLY Backed Out of the BIGGEST Fight (Payday) of his Life...

Dana says that his job is to make the best fights happen. GSP vs Diaz is the best fight at 170. Who gives a shit if he doesn't turn up at a press conference. He turns up when he has to fight.

Correct REED if he's Wrong, but Wasn't Diaz ALREADY Kicked Out of the UFC 1nce Before???...

If So, he Should B THANKFUL For Even GETTING a 2nd Chance...But On Top of that, he's Getting a HIGH PROFILE Fight, for the TITLE & EASILY Getting a Career High Payday, All in 1 Fell Swoop...Some Fighters NEVER Get Opportunities like This, Nevermind 2nd Chances like This...

Fighters HAVE to Sell Themselves, PARTICULARLY when U're in the Main Event of a PPV...U CAN"T Just Sit on your Ass & EXPECT the Masses to Flock to your Fight...No-Showing to 2 MAJOR Press Conferences is Career SUICIDE...

Because when you sign a contract, your contract stipulates that you help promote the fights. Not showing up for one event was dismissed, but not showing up to a second event (a press conference), established a pattern and needed to be handled right away.

If Diaz cant participate in promoting the biggest fight of his life and one of the biggest fights in UFC history, than he doesn't deserve to fight.

Dana was hesitant to bring Nick back because of their previous issues. Diaz proved Dana right.

So the number 1 contender doesn't fight the champion because he no showed a couple of press conferences. Its more like dancing with the stars than a legit sport. I wanna see the champion fight the next best guy. In this case it's Nick Diaz. Condit can show up to all the press conferences he wants to and so can sleeping pill, this is a garbage fight.

What Part of this R U NOT Getting???...

Diaz COMMITTED to the Press Tour yet Straight Up NO-SHOWED, AFTER the UFC had Undoubtedly Made Flight & Hotel Arrangements for him Already...& AFTER Diaz LUCKILY Found Himself BACK in the UFC, Despite Being Exiled Years Ago...

If U're in Diaz's Position, the LAST Thing U Do is BLOW OFF Not 1, but 2 Pressers...

Yeah, as a long time Diaz fan, no excuses, I can't believe it. And yes promotion is just part of the event, every fighter has to do it, even those that aren't naturally inclined towards promotion and talking etc.

It's insane, a career high payday and his first proper big fight, and he does this?

It beggars belief. He's either straight up scared of Joosp and basically wanted out of the fight, or he's one of the dumbest fighters on the planet.

Actually Diaz hasn't worked his way up since getting booted from the UFC after losing to Joe Riggs and then picking a fight with him at the hospital. He went down to 155 and beat Takanori Gomi in Pride when Gomi was still a name, but then tested positive for drugs (marijuana). So that fight was changed to a No-Contest.

He went on a tear in Strikeforce, but did nothing in the UFC. A few of his biggest wins were Frank Shamrock (too old) and Paul Daley (dropped badly by Daley---who had been booted from the UFC for striking Koscheck after the fight had been stopped).

Diaz was the Strikeforce Champ or he wouldn't get a shot at GSP. That being said, he was contractually obligated to make a few appearances promoting the fight.

It's like not showing up at press conferences to promote a boxing match. There's no guarantee that you'll show up. All he had to do was (1)Get on the plane; (2)Show up for a few press appearances; and (3)Show up the night of the fight to battle GSP.

He couldn't do (1) or (2), and it was not a one-time occurrence. This happened TWICE, so they didn't know if he was having a breakdown or what. He acted like a child, disrespecting his own camp and gym. The guy is a headcase, and they can't risk a multimillion dollar card not knowing if one fighter is going to pull an Oliver McCall in the biggest fight of his career.

I am a huge Diaz fan, but based simply on resume, Condit has done far more to earn a shot than Diaz.

His wins over red hot young fighters in MacDonald and Kim were big wins. And the way he ended Hardy's night was easier than anyone else has done including GSP.

This will be a good fight.
