I love Condit. I think both of the swaps will make better fights. Condit is much better at controlling range than Diaz who just walks in a straight line, and he's a better wrestler. I see Diaz walking GSP down right into takedowns for 5 rounds with his only real chance being an armbar or triangle or something...Condit has fantastic sweeps and if he gets on top, its trouble for GSP, hes got a lethal top game both with submissions(countless sub victories) and relentless ground and pound. Plus he's tough as he'll and his tendency to get stronger as the fight goes on, which I think is the most interesting dynamic in a 25 minute fight, especially since GSP seems to fade and completely fold when faced with adversity. If Condit can cut him or do anything to scare GSP, he can stop him late.
Besides the only guy MORE aggressive than Condit is Nick Diaz, which makes Penn vs Diaz so fucking sick. Really can't wait for this one.
why swap opponents? white was a bit too impatient and impulsive to take diaz off the card before changing his mind. what a regretful decision. while penn vs. diaz is a fun fight and perhaps even better than gsp vs. diaz, i'm sure many fans are pissed at what has transpired only within a day. either way, i hope penn destroys diaz.
Diaz is very lucky Dana didnt fire him. And he is VERY VERY lucky he put him in BJ. The winner of BJ and Condit would have gotten the winner of GSP and Diaz, so Diaz is in a good position to win. Diaz must have done some serious apologizing, which is good for him. I agree with TRP, Condit and GSP is a great fight.
Als it's worth nothing that Diaz's top game sucks. Condit is the more dynamic fighter. Diaz has the better chin and boxing, but against GSP neither is a big factor.
it's worth noting that people were actually looking forward to seeing gsp vs. diaz. no one gave a fuck about carlos condit until yesterday. he's good, but he's not a big name like diaz.
I disagree. MMA fans are very knowledgeable about the sport. The majority of the fans are very happy about this outcome. Yes it sucks that diaz cant fight GSP, but Diaz wasnt fighting and is now fighting BJ, with the winner getting a title shot. This couldn't have turned out any better. And Condit has a very good shot here.
i dont recall anyone clamoring for condit vs. big name guys. fans are knowledgeable to a point where they can accept and appreciate gsp vs. condit, but are you telling me that no one's disappointed at the fact that gsp vs. diaz isn't happening? i mean, i for one, wanted to see this soon and was excited for it. not about how it's gonna unfold or how exciting or boring it was going to be, but merely interested in two seemingly unbeatable guys at the top of their game going against each other. and as for condit, I was actually looking forward to him fighting penn, not gsp.
but even with that said, penn vs. diaz is an excellent fight. it would've been an acceptable fight even had penn lost to condit and diaz lost to gsp and the two fight at a later event.
Dana said that he pulled Diaz because he didn't know if he was going to show up for the fight. Now hes scheduled on the same card. So much for being worried if hed show or not.
It's called giving him another chance. He punished him for his actions and now gave him another shot. If he fucks up, you can best believe he will be released.
Of course people are disapointed, but most people are very happy with the alternate. It's the second best fight that can be made. I dont see many people in other forums that are upset by this alternate. This could be a much harder fight for GSP.
There's a big difference between a guy not showing up for the main event which is a title fight against one of the biggest names in the sport and not showing up for a supporting bout. Dana and the UFC did exactly the right thing. Diaz deserved to be punished. And the idea of fighting a very tough opponent for less money and without a title up for grabs has got to be painful for Diaz. In fact, Diaz will be completely screwed if Condit pulls off the upset.
It will be much harder in my opinion. Condit is just an animal. Keep in mind, this dude has trained his ass off to become a better wrestler since Shields beat him. I absolutely can't wait for this fight. Something tells me that GSP's questionable heart is going to be tested in this one.
