This is an interesting observation. It is true, to a large degree, that Vitali's mindset about "winning" a fight has affected his ability to punch. Clearly both he and his brother have demonstrated a desire to be entertaining... but when you boil it down to what they are willing to do in the ring, it is safety, safety, safety, safety, get that win and let the crowd boo.

Because Vitali is so sensitive to counters, and frankly so bad at traditional techniques of avoiding them (he uses sheer size - he LEANS out constantly), he rarely ever commits to his punches. His offense is busy, but anemic in power, and his constant "leaning back so I don't get countered" stance has a significant impact on this. When your torso is essentially back far enough to get your weight on your back foot most of the time, the movement required for a good technical punch becomes cumbersome and almost impossible, as your torso needs to be put into the punch, turned, legs used as well, etc., etc. Whether or not Vitali is capable of throwing technically proper punches is one thing, but he certainly can't do it from his "twitchy" inch in and lean back stance, no way.

But what I find even more frustrating from a standpoint of watching this colossal man who cannot knock far smaller men out, is that the few times he stopped worrying about counters, he STILL could not muster enough power to throw a good KO shot. I remember the Briggs fight, when it got to the last few rounds, Vitali was literally stalking Briggs, coming straight in hands down while Briggs was on the ropes, and Vitali was just launching it all... and he could not land a fucking KO punch. The guy just does not have it in him to throw a knockout blow. It truly is death by 1,000 beestings. From an opponent's point of view, I suppose that yes, this may actually be a more painful way to lose. But from a boxing fan's standpoint, it bothers me that this guy who goes into every fucking fight with a massive, glaring size advantage, at heavyweight no less, can't knock anybody out.

That is the kind of shit that sours people on the Klits, despite the indisputable fact that they dominate their competition.

I fully expect Vitali to keep his distance with Adamek, pepper him all night with awkward jabs and arm punches, lean out when Adamek charges, and over time break down the Pole. Maybe he gets the late TKO, maybe not. I don't really care.

Briggs outweighed Vitali. By 10lbs or more. So you don't remember the Briggs fight. And Briggs was not treated in hospital for 1000 bee-stings. He was treated for a concussion. Arreola was one pound lighter and Kevin Johnson was 5lbs lighter. These are lesser weight differences than the one which Floyd enjoyed over Marquez, or which Chavez Jr enjoyed over Zbik. Yet both of those fights went the distance. This "Massive Glaring Size Advantage" of which you speak is not quite as glaring as you make out. In fact it is far more glaring at the lower weights, where these "Stars" are also failing to get the big KO you so clamour for.

Briggs is about 15 years and 40 lbs past his best, which wasn't very good to begin with. Arreola and Johnson were both fat. I suppose if Roberto Duran from 2009 walked into the ring with Vitali tomorrow, you'd crow about how Vitali didn't have a size advantage since Duran was 300 lbs at the time.

    Don't be thick.

    Johnson was fat???

    Roberto Duran???

    :wack:

Briggs was a 260lb steroid-infused lump. He gassed versus Lewis...he wasn't KO'd there either. He has always shown a good chin.

Margaret Goodman did a very good review of that fight.:crafty:

It's really quite amusing and ironic.

People won't give Adamek pfp credit for hanging in with men who are 20lb and 30lb heavier than him.

And they won't give Vitali credit, saying he enjoys a massive -10lb advantage, or +5lb advantage, over these much much smaller guys he is fighting.

Apparently VK-Adamek starts @ 5 EST. Anybody know if there's going to be a pile of televised garbage undercard fights first?

edit: never mind, VK entering the ring

Wow, having a close fight with Prescott doesn't say much for Kloskey.

Prescott lost almost every round to Kevin Mitchell.

McKloskey, Prescott and Mitchell are, in a way, almost as bad as each other. Mitchell, when he is on his game, and not eating Jellied Eels and getting high with his mom, is the best of them all.

McKloskey doesn't get stopped in 3 by Katsidis but as you saw, he doesn't white-wash Prescott either.

But yeah, you're probably right. When on form, Mitchell probably is better than the others, but also more vulnerable for sure, not the toughest fighter as evidenced by the Katsidis fight.

PS - Adamek is one ugly motherfucker.

Basically yeah, Mitchell is the most skilled, but has the worst chin of the three...
