This is actually a very interesting card. I love the Brookins-Koch match up. Jonathan Brookins gets an amazingly tough test in his first fight since winning TUF. And Belcher-MacDonald should be a great scrap between two determined guys that are literally just one rung down from being elite. They both have almost mirror image careers with decent wins followed by disappointing loses. MacDonald seemed like a new man since returning from injury in his last fight against Ryan Jensen. The must see fight on the preliminary card has to be Evan Dunham against Shamar Bailey. Dunham was setting the world on fire until back-to-back loses to Sherk and Guillard cooled him down. Although the Sherk decision was worse than questionable. Bailey, one of the favorites early on in the last TUF season, gets a crack at the big time. In the main even Jake Shields tries to rebound from his disappointing loss to GSP as he takes on red hot Jake Ellenberger. Ellenberger is on a 5 fight win streak since his narrow points loss to Carlos Condit back in September 2009. Shields will have his hands absolutely full. With a win Ellenberger places himself in the discussion for a possible title eliminator down the road. Bailey in a must see fight? Surely you just. He's a borderline scrub, I'm amazed he is even fighting in the UFC. He got dominated by Chris Cope. If Dunham loses to Bailey all it proves is that Dunham is somehow done as a fighter. Must admit I haven't seen Ellenburger or Kock fight, are they any good? How good a chance do they have against Jake and Brookins?
Koch's like a more methodical, less dynamic Pettis. He'll probably destroy Brookins. Ellenburger's got a style to give Shields hell, I'd advise betting on him but I'd favour Shields, just because he's Jake Shields.
Oh really? Damn that's interesting, kind of surprised I somehow haven't seen either of these guys. Brookins' standup is absolutely horrible, but he can wrestle and fight on the ground, so I guess it depends on how well this Koch fella can keep it standing. What is Ellenburger's style? And yeah, though I'm not a Shields fan, the boy knows how to win. Even against Joosp he was a bit more competitive than I expected. Still amazed he managed to beat Henderson to be honest. That's a fucking good win.
Ellenberger is a boxer/wrestler with crushing power. Only DII though(but also was Shields), and the flaw in is his game is his jui-jitsu However not very many better sprawl and brawlers than Ellenberger.
I think now it's safe to admit that Henderson loss to Shield was mainly due to him having to cut to mw
LOL... That was my immediate thought as well. Ellenberger dogged Shields. Suddenly the welterweight division is loaded.
I haven't even seen this yet, couldn't find a stream. As quick as the fight was, did Mr Burger appear to even outwrestle Shields?
Well, it was over so quick. But Jake did take one shot and Ellenberger tossed him aside. As TLC indicated, Ellenberger's defensive wrestling is damn good. People call me crazy but I think he is the perfect foil for GSP. He's a guy that can stuff take downs and make you pay big time for trying them.
Shields tried a takedown caught in a muay Thai plum, ate a knee and cracked on the ground for the finish. This win also enhances Carlos Condit's legacy. :kidcool:
Interesting, I'm pretty curious to see this now, and his fight with Condit. GSP is clever though, and well rounded, he'd quickly adapt if his takedowns weren't working.
I think GSP could still technically outbox Ellenberger much like he did with Koscheck. But Ellenberger has sick power and is more dynamic with his striking. He's in the mix now probably only one win away from a title shot.
GSP wouldn't have too much problems with Ellenberger. He's too slow, doesnt use range well, doesn't kick well and let's not be fooled, GSP can take Ellenberger down multiple times in a 5 rounder.
Bailey's doing a good job of staying at the end of Evan Dunham's punches. Jesus Christ, that's got to be at least a 90% connect rate for Dunham and 9% for Shemar.
How the FUCK were both Shields and Ellenburger listed at 6 foot when Ellenburger was clearly 3 inches shorter? I mean wtf, really, was Ellenburger wearing high heels when he got measured? :: But anyway, he's pretty fucking good. I can't believe how easily he defended Shields' takedowns, just tossed him aside and escaped, then slammed him onto that knee. I actually can't believe he lost to fucking Rick Story, he seems way better than Story.
