Junior middleweights Pawel Wolak (29-1-1, 19 KOs) and Delvin Rodriguez (25-5-3, 14 KOs) will fight a rematch of their exciting draw from July on the undercard of Miguel Cotto vs. Antonio Margarito on December 3 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Top Rank matchmaker Carl Moretti finalized the deal today. Their first fight was a “fight of the year†candidate. Good undercard fight.
"Wombat Wolack, Everyones Favourite Polack, What? Didn't you knew? He beat up that Jew Yuri Foreman Was His Name Like Gargarins Space Game He Got Blasted Into Space And He Fell On His Face Hurt My Leg Was His Motto When He Fought Miguel Cotto But Now He'll Never Come Back Thanks To Wombat Wolack." Anon.
Don't hate on Wolack. He has the entire collated works of every Hip-Hop artist your ass is yet to even hear of, so don't hate on him. He's really....your kind of guy.
If Rios is matched up competitively (relatively speaking), easily looking at the best card of the year. Glad to see this rematch happen, and that both will be properly compensated. I think they made $15,000 each on ESPN2 for the fight, and will be making close to six figures each for the rematch. And we have Dan Goossen and Rico Ramos to thank. Had they not priced themselves out of the slot (were supposed to fight Rigondeaux), this fight wouldn't have happened and Wolak would be facing a non-descript opponent off-TV. Win-win. A dull track meet is scratched, in favor of a rematch to a leading FOTY candidate.
$15,000 is a fucking disgrace for any televised fight, especially one involving dudes who come to fight. That's a sham. The ill-fated Howard Clarke got that money back in 1998 when he signed to face Vargas on the Lewis vs Holy Undercard.
clarke got fucked then. thats a huge 8 figure pay per view, not a rinky dink espn2 card with a 50,000 dollar budget.
Clarke did get fucked. But he wasn't on Wolaks level as a 154lbr, he was an utter career journey-man who beat Jason Papillon to get a world title shot. Vargas was looking for a soft touch and Clarke, a member of Nobby Nobbs "Loser Unlimited" gym in England, got the call up to fight Vargas. Taking into account that Clarke got $15,000 after expenses and taxes, and taking inflation on-board, and the fact that Clarke was a lesser fighter than Wolak, I think its Wolak who got fucked, and his opponent, not Clarke, relatively speaking. Clarke is pretty much dead now, he is living out the rest of his life in a care home in England, suffering front frontal-lobe dementia. He's a snazzy dresser and a hip-hop kind of guy so I expect to see some threads round here for him pretty soon.
