Pre-Lewis Grant outscores and outworks him. Utterly horrific styles problems for Tua, who wouldn't get close enough to do a damn thing.
The point is that Grant with confidence was much different fighter compared to Grant without confidence, even though neither was very good. Prime Grant was able to actually take a punch and keep fighting. Also, in his prime he was stylistically a problem for Tua. Tua probably takes this, but it wouldn't be a quick destruction
Would you call the Grant that fought Golota a Grant with confidence? Was this the prime Grant you speak of? He was dropped twice by Golota and only came back to win because Golota inexplicably let that happen. Tua would have chopped down Grant like an old tree.
Yes, Golota knocked him down but he had reach and speed to get to Grant, Tua had neither. Again this is how you want to see it. Look at Grant's KO losses and it seems Tua will walk over him. Then look Tua getting outboxed for several rounds against David Izon (whom Grant beat easily), Oleg Maskaev (whose chin wasnät much better) and Jeff Wooden and it seems more tricky
To me, Grant would win every second of this just jabbing and being tall, but he's eventually going to get hit and when he does, the end will be near
Why? Mike Grant had size, reach, decent power and athleticism. This automatically spells trouble for Tua. He struggled for long stretches with a Maskaev that had 10 or 11 fights under his belt. Tua would be desperately off balance for long stretches off the fight, Grant would heel him constantly and start to bust him up.
and ZERO balance coordination or boxing intelligence. Plus his chin was shit. Tua would find that chin sooner rather than later regardless of the height difference.
I think it's also important to note that Mike Grant didn't have confidence in his ability to take a shot... I think he'd freeze up once he got hit with one of Tua's shots
