UFC boss says Dallas stadium show still possible, Silva-Sonnen II to headline? by Dann Stupp and John Morgan on Oct 09, 2011 at 9:20 am ET HOUSTON – After hosting a another successful show in the Lone Star State, the UFC could return to Texas with an even bigger event. It fact, the state could host the UFC's next major stadium show. And following his impressive victory over Brian Stann at Saturday's UFC 136 event at Houston's Toyota Center, Chael Sonnen could get his long-awaited rematch in the show's headliner. White said he currently has no plans for a next stadium show; the first, of course, took back in April when a UFC and North American record 55,724 attendees packed Toronto's Rogers Centre. But should a second one be put together, Dallas' 110,000-seat Cowboys Stadium could be the venue. "We've been talking to (Cowboys owner) Jerry Jones for a while about doing a fight there," White said. "It's just got to be the right fight. We're definitely going there. It's just a matter of when." So how does he know when the timing is right? After all, White, who made a triumphant return to Brazil back in August, greatly underestimated the demand in the country and saw 14,000 seats sell out in just 74 minutes. Next year, UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta said the Convention Center of Manaus (one of many "sambadromes" located throughout Brazil) – an outdoor venue that can hold up to 100,000 fans – could be the next host site. "It's a gut (thing)," White said. "We kind of go with our gut, and we've been right. We knew Toronto was going to be big, so we went for the big stadium there. We [expletive] Brazil up last time we went there. We didn't nail that one, but we won't make that mistake twice." As for Dallas, White said it's only a matter of time. "It's like all these prestigious arenas you go to around the world," he said. "We've been to Royal Albert Hall. We've been to the O2 Arena in London. You name the arena, we've been there. It's a big deal for us to go to Dallas [Cowboys] Stadium and put on a big event there. ... We want to do that big stadium (show)." Georges St-Pierre vs. Jake Shields headlined the first stadium show at UFC 129. So what could headline the Dallas show? Following his victory over Stann, Sonnen – who returned from a 14-month layoff – solidified his No. 1 contender's status and immediately called out UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva. The fighters first met at UFC 117, where Sonnen dominated four rounds before Silva secured a fifth-round submission victory. Since then, the outspoken Sonnen has claimed to be the UFC's true champ, and Saturday's post-fight speech was used solely to call out Silva. Could Dallas host the rematch? "I think it could," White said. "I think we could do a big, big venue for that one."
It's a great fight. But I think Sonnen faces the same problem as the first fight. Chael is not a finisher which means he will go 25 minutes with Silva. With a guy as dangerous as Silva, that's just too much time.
I think Sonnen wins the second time around. He absolutely dominated Silva the first time around. This time he will do the same thing minus stupid mistakes. I bet if he's up 4-0 going into the fifth this time around he will just take Silva down and lay and pray and kill the clock there is no way he will take any more stupid chances.
What stupid chances? All he did was take Silva down.... He was trying to lay and pray but got caught in a triangle. He didn't do anything risky and still got caught.
damn it, stop posting my thoughts all the time if we are arguing about something we pretty much exactly agree on the same shit sonnen did nothing reckless standing even when he was getting the better of silva, and i dont recall and real serious submission attempts so he wasnt out of position or anything like that. ill be in texas for this for sure, this would be epic in the jerry dome
I honestly think Sonnen has such utter hatred for Jiu-Jitsu that he doesn't spend much time learning sub defense. It is just amazing that an elite MMA grappler like him gets caught in so many subs so easily.
It really is. He slams BJJ every time he gets interviewed yet it's the way he almost always gets beat. He is also a bit delusional. Read his quote from last night and tell me if he REALLY thinks he won the fight with Silva:
I might have to rewatch that round. I saw it intoxicated at a bar . From what I recall he took him down and tried some agressive g&p but if he just lay and prayed then my bad.
Yes sonnen was pretty awesome the other night. However didn't he fail a drugs test after the silva fight? If that's the case he gets no credit for the performance against silva
just do gspussy silva already. not sure how anybody is excited to see a guy with a zillion loses fight a guy whos unbeaten in years and has already beaten him.
I do like the guy, he's a good personality to have around.. <object width="640" height="360"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Rzy2GVMy-iQ&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&version=3"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Rzy2GVMy-iQ&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="360"></embed></object>

Sonnen might be funny if he wasn't an obvious troll who would say anything make people talk about him. His post fight victory speech, while moderately funny, was a disgrace for a sport trying to pass itself as legitimate. It was obviously scripted and look straight out of the WWE for the sole purpose of selling the rematch. You can bet you're gonna see it non-stop on the primer for the fight.
You notice he did no shit talking for the Stann fight. He just has a geniune dislike for Anderson Silva.
If Fightbeat can Hook Up Credentials, REED'll Cover THE SHIT Out of It...Pre-Fight, Weigh-In, Post-Fight, etc... REED:kidcool:
As soon as it is signed, lets start working on that for you. Just remind me of this conversation with lots of time in advance. I hope you can go, not just for pics, but just for the experience.
