Anyone watching this season. I'm loving it. Mayhem is absolutely tooling Bisping. It seems Miller has a great rapport with his fighters and the dude actually gives great instructions. I was curious what kind of coach he'd be, and he's actually done far better than I thought. On top of that, there are some pretty talented guys this season. And fights involving the 135 and 145er's are always exciting.
I loved it when Bisping said that mayhem is trying to make a name for himself off of Bisping's back. Is he crazy? Mayhem is an international star. Miller's been fighting long before Bisping had his fist match.
Yeah he fought in Japan and he fought some of the best fighters in the world. He also has is own TV show on MTV. He is a much bigger star than Bisping.
I don't know that there is a huge gap favoring either guy in terms of global popularity. Mayhem has fought everywhere including fights for a DREAM title and a Strikeforce title. And Miller has also gained a wide fan base through the "Bully Beatdown" show. Meanwhile Bisping gained popularity by winning on season 2 of TUF. And he has been a polarized poster boy by the UFC for MMA in England. I think it's probably a wash in terms of mainstream popularity. The one thing I know for certain is that a fight with Bisping will have no bearing on Mayhem "making a name for himself".
I dont think it's even close in terms of popularity. Miller is all over the place on MTV. Not just bully beatdown. They use him all the time because of his show. And bully Beatdown's ratings alone are very close to TUF. Hell do a google search on the two and you can see who is discussed more.
I don't disagree and that's why I call it a wash. Keep in mind, we are talking about MMA. There is no more exposure on the planet than the UFC for MMA fighters. And Bisping has actually been involved in the main event or co-main event on 4 UFC cards. And that doesn't even bring up the fact that he was on one of the biggest cards in UFC history and was knocked out in MOST memorable fashion on that card. People remember that shit!! LOL. Again, I don't think Bisping is more popular. I just don't think the gap is very wide between them in terms of popularity especially among MMA fans.
Truth is Bisping in fact is more well known to the CASUAL mma fan . Miller is more well known to the casual person who is not a ufc fan. So Mayham coming to UFC and beating Bisping would in fact be making a name for himself off Bisping in the UFC.
LOL.. Considering Mayhem fought in the UFC way before Bisping, ummm NO. But more importantly, fans already know Miller. It would be a decent resume building win and certainly elevate Miller in the rankings, but "making a name" for Miller??? Please. He's already done that on his own. Realistically, if Miller wasn't a well-known guy to casual fans, there is no way Dana and the UFC cast him as a coach on TUF. Hell the guy probably isn't even ranked in the Top 15-20 in the weight class YET he is still popular enough to coach TUF. Name another guy that has coached TUF that has been ranked so low. I can't think of anyone.
Thats just wrong. Mayhem has had a huge fan base for quite some time. He didnt get his own TV show cause no one knows who he is
Fans like you guys are not the same as tapout wearing drunkies at your local bars and that's the vast majority of the paying customer by far.
If I had never heard of cage fighting, I would know who Miller is. His bully shit is posted on facebook all the time.
Ok here is how it goes. A casual person on the street will more likely know Miller over Bisping since Miller is on tv a lot more.(cable tv etc not ufc ppvs A casual UFC fan will know Bisping more because Bisping fought in the UFC much more even coaching TUF and headlining ppvs. Miller is trying to establish his name in the UFC hence a win over an established guy like Bisping will mean a lot. It would be the same thing if Bisping decided to make himself a MTV star and persued that career at the expense of Miller by showing up on Miller's show and trying to upstage him. Dana White let Miller coach TUF not because he is a well known MMA guy. He let him coach because he wants to attract more casual tv viewers (mind you not ufc/mma fans) and those new viewers, potential new mma/ufc fans will equal more ppv buys more money for Dana and company. Plus Dana knows Miller is a charismatic funny guy who will make a name for himself off the TUF alone (especially to the casual ufc fans who don't know who he is)
Put it this way, my girlfriend is a VERY casual MMA (tuf) fan, so she knew who Bisping was and didn't know who Mayhem was. Don't forget, there are a LOT of TUF fans, who aren't necessarily proper MMA fans, and they'll of course know Bisping. She likes Mayhem and doesn't like Bisping though.
REED Would Label Himself a "Casual" Fan of MMA & he'd NEVER Heard of Mayhem Miller Until this Season of TUF...Likable Dude Though... As for the Show Itself, REED has Been VERY Impressed w/the Level of Talent Thus Far...Similar to Boxing, the "Little" Guys Seem to Possess the Best OVERALL Blend of Speed, Power & Athleticism, in MMA... It's Pretty Funny that Bisping has the Black Midget SPYing for him, yet Still LOSING Every Match Pretty Decisively...Mayhem's Strategies & Mid-Fight Coaching R Working to PERFECTION thus Far...Bisping's Style is ALREADY WEARING on his Fighters...Seriously, who the Hell Sends their Fighter into Battle w/a Black Eye???... REED:scratcher:
i've seen that bully beatdown show like twice. it's not very good. plus, MTV is garbage these days. who watches that shit?
If you are an MMA fan and dont know who miller is, you are either new to the sport or arent really a fan.
I would tend to agree with you. I would assume most MMA fans would typically have watched Strikeforce and Miller did fight Shields for the title. Not to mention that he also fought in the DREAM Middleweight Grand Prix and then later for the vacant title. Bottom line is that Miller has been in some relatively high profile fights despite not being on the big UFC stage.
You know Anthony, I am starting to lean more your way on this. I forgot that Miller fought Shields on the first CBS MMA broadcast on the Fedor-Rogers under card which pulled in 5 million viewers. That ain't too shabby. And what MMA fan didn't watch that card?

Hard for me to believe, but Mayhem has been around the game longer than Bisping even though Bisping has been featured on three seasons of TUF. Mayhem fought GSP when George was on his way up the welterweight ranks.
Heck yeah Mayhem has been around for ever. He DID get beat up good in that fight, but he was game throughout, still trying to slap on subs and 'clowning' when ever the chance came up. That fight got Mayhem alot of respect. The hard thing for me to believe, is how much bigger Mayhem has gotten. In terms of natural size Bisping is way bigger than Mayhem. Hopefully his superior skills will come through and beat the bigger guy.
Is it just me or since a few episodes ago, Miller seems kind of scared of Bisping? At first he was giving as good as he got, now he just seems to be letting Bisping talk shit, and not doing anything back. Incidentally Dennis is hilarious. "Aww... why you... penis head kick me" ::
