if the game is getting sheep to support propaganda, I'm afraid I'm not as good as the author of that charles video.

Rarely do I see fighters execute the right hand to the body, or the left hook to the face. These really are advanced techniques.

    yup, that's all that happened

never mind how it was set-up

you're right, jaws, a magic fairy sprinkled dust onto the world of boxing in 1960 which changed everything

Boxing was at its peak right up until...the present...which has miraculously been every year since 1998.

Oh...was that about the time the US amateurs started to get trounced regularly by the opposition? I think it was. So it was a decline of the sport and not a shift in the power structure? I see.

I was actually referring to the professional game, the one you know nothing about

Enlighten me. Why did the professional game start declining at this time? Did it have nothing to do with the American amateur decline? I sort of thought that a lot of amateur boxers became professionals? Hmmm. Oh well, so why did the pro game start declining around this time? And we're talking about the quality of the fighters, just so you don't lose focus.

Possibly the rising and increasing power of Don King and Bob Arum and the roles of promoters and PPV, HBO, and marketing has something to do with a percieved decline by some here as early as the late 80s and early 90s. GS

In their primes, Louis and Moore would beat both Marciano and Tua

.. and Tua would literally knock Marciano's head off

hmmm..."Starting out as a middleweight and becoming perhaps the best light heavyweight of all time, Ezzard Charles had to move all the way up to heavyweight for a title shot."

Old Ezzard went ~25-2-1 as a middle...a little hard to tell where to make the cutoff because !!! there were catchweights!!!

Then he goes up to light heavy and his overall record is 60-5-1 before he finally gets a title shot by moving up to heavyweight.

Things was sure good for the fighters back then, wasn't they? At least the fans could name the champs, I suppose.

This may be true. The sport went more to a ppv model in the early 90's. I think you are especially correct by qualifying it as a 'perceived' decline.

The video is fucking stupid. On another example Charles came very close to getting caught with a big counter left hook.

haha, seems interesting to romanticize an era of the sport when black guys got shut out of championship fights, doesn't it? Sport must have been GREAT back then?

Blacks, whites, asians, africans, hispanics, etc...nobody gets shut out these days. At all. Hmmm...it's almost like this change would have increased participation in the sport since more people are likely to benefit from participating.

Interesting how you posit that this isn't the case, but can find no support for your position. hmmm

your favorite fighters are Duran and Monzon and you were born in the 1980s

You know how I came to know this era of boxing? By studying the shit out of it

You should try that, instead of saying "I wasn't alive, so I'll just say it sucked"

    1) you are ignorant. Hopelessly so. You've never heard of Saoul Mamby, if you can't even grasp 30 years ago, why should anything you have to say about 60 years ago be relevant? It isn't, and you aren't.

    2) no romantic revisionism is taking place... I'm not quoting anyone... I took the time to LEARN about the sport

that's a pretty idiotic reason to ignore the content of the video

who the fuck cares if some half-wit like Monte Cox knows the maker of the video? what does that have to do with anything?

wahhh bullshitter. I said I know who Mamby is, but I don't think I've seen him fight. You never established who should be compared. I don't think you know shit about the current scene. You never show it if you do.

    2) yeah...learn about today's fight scene. It would make you more objective. If you would take the trouble to back up some bullshit, I'd go watch a fight or so of some guys you pick out. I've seen a lot of 80's fights. A lot. But there may be some I haven't and if they make a consensus list, I'd probably go check it out.

But that's the difference between us. You don't back up anything. You just say shit and wait for steve_dave to give you a smiley face in response.

I haven't seen you in the round-by-round threads recently, cabron... you knwo the ones dealing with TODAY

You want to compare two eras and you don't know about one of them... FUCK YOURSELF... you are beneath me, I don't respect your knowledge, I don't respect your understanding of the game... you have shown me nothing over the years... I don't have to deign to respond to your little pissings, because you don't know anything. I am not required to give creedence to you, to debate you when you are so ignorant

why don't you go back and find some posts that demonstrate your claims?
You are taking the pussy way out. As usual.

Now round by round threads are the litmus test for following the sport? haha...whatever...if you have something to do and a tivo it's not like you need to worry about too many results being ruined if you are out...

    I like how you've made Mamby the flag-bearer for 1981. You're a nostalgic joke.

There never was a debate. There was a stupid indistinct claim put forth and I tried to get broadway, and later you, to tighten up the claim so that a debate could begin. But you went complete bitch. And stayed complete bitch. And continue to.
