Yep...since Ali lost to them...they sucked and he was faded. But if he hadn't lost to them the first time around, he would talk about them in a much higher regard.

Mathis was fat, but was a MUCH better boxer than Tua. Bringing up Mathis only works if you want to say they were both fat.

Did I miss something?? Is anyone who matters predicting Frazier gets Tua out of there early?

You tried hard with this one I can tell. It's neither funny or clever though. I don't want to discourage your efforts though so please try again later. :bears:

I'd be very surprised (though maybe that shouldn't be the case) if 50% of this forum picked Frazier over Tyson. There isn't one single thing Frazier does better than Tyson. "He haz mor hartz!!@" doesn't apply here, Frazier isn't hurting Tyson.

Re: Tyson vs Ali, styles make fights (aside from that, Ali's fight with Bonavena was not only post-layoff, but immediately after his fight with Quarry)

Do you think Ken Norton would beat Tyson, too?

didn;t say they necessarily picked him to win, but they all thought the idea of a quick annihlation ridiculous and many felt that the longer it went, the better it favored Frazier

Norton does not beat Tyson, he could give pretty much everyone hell, but the real monstrous punchers inevitably got to him, he waited to get hit

this is a ridiculous post. If you think Tua is getting shutout by Jerry Quarry God bless your helmet and its other retard accessories.

I don't think he had a china chin... He took good shots from Ali, Holmes, Quarry... All of those guys hit hard enough to hurt and none of them were able to keep Norton off of them

I just think, against the enormous hitters (Foreman, Shavers, even Cooney to a certain extent, though Norton was badly faded by then) that Norton had a tendency to anticipate that the punches were going to hurt him and he would seem to forget his defense as if he thought it inevitable that he would be hurt, which made him completely hittable and consequently, easily blasted. Tyson would be no different. Same exact type of result.

I don't know that Tyson would annihilate Frazier quickly, I do think he would stop him though.

As far as Norton's record against big punchers, Frazier never fought Shavers..

    You're missing the point.

Norton's ability to take a punch has been questioned by his performances against Shavers and Cooney..in addition to Foreman.

Frazier's ability hasn't been questioned to the same extent...but Frazier had never fought a shavers or a cooney to compare apples with oranges.

Who knows if his chin would have stood up and whether he would have been deemed as vulnerable to punchers as Norton is.

I'm not saying that Frazier shoul dhave fought Cooney..or even Shavers.

he would have MURDERED Shavers, who are you kidding?

Norton also lost to Jose Luis Garcia, a very ordinary fighter with a big punch

Shavers had the chin of an accountant and the stamina of an old lady... there's no way he keeps Frazier down even if manages to floor him early... It would take two or three rounds tops for Frazier to knock him around the ring, it took Quarry one round

Frazier was hurt by Ali. Anybody who gets hurt by Ali on several occasions and then goes toe to toe for 12/15 rounds with Tua gets blasted out. You guys need to understand no one is hating on Frazier he simply had the wrong style and not enough of a chin to stand up to Tua for full 12/15 rounds.

If you think Frazier out slugs and holds up to Tua's power please tell me how Frazier does it. I'm listening.

Calling Ali one of the worst infighters ever isnt an exaggeration. If rules were enforced, he'd really have been the worst ever.

against a guy with better skills, better handspeed, better talent and way more desire and heart

Like I said, Tua would hurt Frazier early, floor him probably, but he's not keeping him there... Frazier gets up and takes over

Shavers was asked this question in the early 90s and in his opinion Joe wouldn't have lasted two rounds with him.
Of course Earnie is biased, but the fact that he was a fast starter and joe was a slow starter and joe was relativel easy to hit makes his case fairly strong. Of course we'd never know.

ok, but Ali didn't land when they were infighting, when Frazier had him on the ropes time and again

he landed when he got room... full extension on his shots

BOSS was intimating that "Ali hurt Frazier, therefore...' in regards to Tua, who could possibly take the title of "worst long-range fighter in history"
