delahoya never had a win at welterweight as impressive as margaritos victory over cotto.

Absolutely. He was good enough to give the best a decent fight, but that's about it. For a while folks were trying to sell him as an uncrowned champion who had the misfortune of fighting during an especially tough time at Welter, but I didn't see him doing any better during the Leonard-Hearns-Benitez-Duran-Cuevas days or the Curry-Starling-McCrory days. Carr was a good fighter who might have been able to grab an alphabet belt during a slow time in the division, but that's about it.

And before some Carr fan gets bent out of shape...there's absolutely nothing wrong with being a good fighter who was just not on the level of the best.

As far as the topic goes...Margarito is not remotely an all-timer.

I would have loved to see the this scumbag fight a prime Tito @147. That would have been something to behold. It would have been comical watching Margarito try to pressure Tito. He would have left the ring in a pine box.

Theft, Fraud, corruption and racketeering oughta add up to a dead heat. Only the 5th piggy runs home, but Shaefer, the accountant, who can't run,.. will plead the 5th.

Agreed, I see Carr as a good solid contender type, who would've held a title in a less strong era.

He got overhyped due to USA Tuesday Night Fights, being a Kronk fighter, and advertising for Fila.

Really, his most notable fight Pre-Trinidad was getting a lucky decision over Livingstone Bramble.

Of course he is. Anyone who follows the sport would have an opinion on Graham way before reading this article, and they'd know to take it seriously even if they disagree.

Analyzing fights is what Graham Houston does. He does it very well. He does it all the time.

The date of the article is 2 days before the Mosley fight.

Everything about Margarito has been viewed in a different light since that fight. The first sentence of the article reads "Antonio Margarito would likely have been a handful for any welterweight in history." That is probably still true to some extent, but I would qualify it.

I would say that any welterweight that Margarito can hit will be in a tough fight. Margarito is a tough sob with enough skill, strength, power and chin to keep any welter honest. He is just too slow and a lot of great fighters would be able to exploit that weakness.

While that's true and i also view him differently since then it certainly goes too far in picking him over established great welterweights of the past.

Which Margarito, the one with the blocks in his gloves or the one without...

For arguments sake, neither is all time material.

    Please...

    ROTFLMAO!!!!!!....

I read that part too and nearly fell out of my chair.

I think even 9 rounds is being generous. Leonard performing like he did against Green stops Margarito in no more than 6 rounds.

To be fair, it looked like Margarito was almost impossible to hurt before it actually happened.

My all time favorite Emille Griffth would beat him with his toughness and ability to trade with the best...now that is a HOFer...Margarito was never close....GS

It is extremely unlikely that Ray Leonard would ever lose to or stop Antonio Margarito.

I think way to many people overrated the Cotto fight. People tend to forget that Margarito was out boxed by Paul Williams and was nearly done in by Clottey before injuries (or the inability to deal with plaster punches) made him fall apart. Even Cotto was outboxing Margarito but lost due to being on an uneven playing field. I think Neil needs to take that into context before he continues his campaign about how Margarito would beat ODLH.

Hell I'd pick a prime Corey Spinks to beat Margarito. If he could outbox Mayorga what makes you think he couldn't do the same to a plodding, predictable, guy like Margarito who actually punches slower than Mayorga?

Extremely unlikely Leonard stops Marg? Yeah okkkk.

    I think you're severely underestimating Leonard's power.
