From fightnews.com... Yesterday promoter Ahmet Oner and Hall of Famer Emanuel Steward agreed that Steward will from now on work as head coach of fast rising Cuban phenomenon Yuriorkis Gamboa. Today the protagonists expressed their excitement about the deal. “I’m proud and happy that a living legend like Emanuel Steward decided to work with me,†states 2004 Olympic gold medalist Gamboa. “Steward has always worked with the best. I know that I am a very good boxer but I also know that there is always a lot to learn an improve. Emanuel Steward is one of the most experienced and best trainers in the world and I’m sure that he will bring out the best in me.†“Yuriorkis Gamboa is a star in the making and I am excited to become part of this processâ€, says Steward. “I’m too old to waste my time so I pick my fighters very carefully. I see a lot of potential in Gamboa.†“This is a match made in heavenâ€, comments promoter Ahmet Oner. “I am very happy that I was able to make this happen. I am sure that Emanuel Steward will take Gamboa to the next level. For these two the sky is the limit.â€
Not sure if this a good fit. Steward can maybe help shore up some of Gamboa's deficiencies like his defense and balance, but hopefully his style doesn't change too much. Gamboa isn't meant to be an orthodox work behind the jab kind of guy.
I'd love to see Ingle train Gamboa. There aren't many boxers in the history of the sport who have the potential to do the Hamed thing better than Hamed. Gamboa, I think, is one. Who was training Gamboa? Seems like the best trainer for him would be one of his original Cuban trainers.
Would be interesting for sure. <object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/CiIANWzpos0?version=3&feature=player_detailpage"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/CiIANWzpos0?version=3&feature=player_detailpage" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="360"></object>
Listen to how Ingle developed his training methods and how he continued to develop his fighters, and the politics of amateur boxing, and how he dealt with it. <object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/bXOMyLCgSks?version=3&feature=player_detailpage"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/bXOMyLCgSks?version=3&feature=player_detailpage" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="360"></object>
