Nah it wasn't Roy losing, per se, it was the way he BITCHED OUT of the 3rd tarver fight (Took pride in merely lasting the distance) and subsequently the way he didn't even try to beat Calzaghe and just let the man clown him. He proved to be a cowardly cunt.

No denying the greatness of his prime though. Awesome fighter.

No, talent would seem to indicate how easily you are able to accomplish the athletic demands of boxing

Roy Jones trained ferociously for his whole life to be as good as he was... it wasn't just "I'm so fast"

He developed a style that relied heavily on his natural gifts, but he still had to perfect that style and make it work, he still had to train exhaustively to make it a practical reality

Roy Jones is the most naturally gifted fighter I have ever seen.He didn't need to be taught how to fight he was born to fight... no not in our lifetime maybe the next generation

Agreed! I personally dont think there will ever be another one like RJ. Some fighters may have similarities but that's as far as that will go.

I completely disagree.. RJJ had ridiculous talent, yes. The most talented fighter ever, probably. But he still needed to be taught how to fight, and was taught exactly that from a very young age. His style was something developed and honed over many years of training, instruction and learning.

A great deal of it yes, but some things Roy did were pure improvisation.

That's the difference between the GREAT GREAT fighters (athletes in any sport) and the greats....the ability to improvise.

Roy went 12 with far, far inferior fighters. In fcat Ward would probably be the 3rd best fighter Jones ever fought.

    And skill level.

It would depend of Roy's mood, honestly

roy had godlike speed and reflexes but there are probably 1000s of more talented boxers, who are not trained from age 2 to box. i think that has alot to do with guys like roy, floyd, etc. being so "talented"

imo guys like tyson, marciano, etc. who didnt train that long before being monsters are more talented.

people like locche, pep, whitaker, jones jr, floyd are usually called the super talented, when in fact they were extremely schooled.

i would say james toney was more talented than roy jones. but when you have 1/10 the work ethic, combined with 10+ less years of experience it takes its toll.
