What do you think about Pacquiao not even being able to hurt Marquez?

Regardless of how hard you think Pacman can punch at 140+, I think it's undeniable he's at least a solid, snappy puncher.

He plastered Hatton, KO'd Cotto, and buzzed Mosley/Plasterito with single shots.

Yet he couldn't hurt Marquez at all, Marquez who has looked downright vulnerable at 135, and has been hurt by Katsidis and Juan Diaz of all people.

Personally I thought his punches looked weak tonight, and slower, that looked like more of a factor to me than Marquez bulking up better.

Easy. Marquez takes half steps. Pac never hit him. I thought the rear (left) uppercut was there all night. Marquez just refused to get caught. That is why he lost the fight. Judges see one guy landing, the other backing up.

Yeah that's a big factor, and you're right also a big factor in why he lost. Too negative.

Pacquiao caught him clean, but I guess never quite caught him flush like in the first 2 fights.

It is easy to be negative. It i harder to be Pacman than Mayweather. Any school kid knows how to avoid a punch. That being said, Pac looks faded. If I see a guy laying his head to the right and I am a southpaw, I am throwing the rear uppercut. Pac needed to jab more as well. Marquez's gameplan was to disengage and counter. His counters were shit too by they way. Jut slapping contact shots. Not saying Pac won either, jut wasn't clear. Leave it to that cunt Marquez to say he clearly won. It could have gone either way. I would feel more sympathy had he engaged more.

Pac has definitely slipped. He is still agile as fuck, but you're right, the ability to spot openings has dimished big style, as has his raw speed, especially with his hands.

He used to spot openings and react freakishly fast, and the straight left was like a laser. He looked slower, weaker, and more hesitant to pull the trigger.

How do you not see Marquez's big block head laying there. To be fair, one round back fired the rear uppercut and won it. Pac looked like ass versus Mosley and people blamed Mosely. I blamed Pac. He can't pull the trigger anymore. Floyd isn't what he was, but he has enough to beat Pac.

Floyd is too smart for Pac. He'll jab his stomach all night long, make him walk into traps and will land that right hand almost at will. Pacquiao is an offensive machine, but he still commits the same defensive mistakes he did when he fought at featherweight. Floyd will exploit those mistakes.

I think this is largely true

The main difference between Pac at 126 and Pac later on at 140 and beyond is that he really developed his right hand, particularly the right hook... While there were some improvements in head movement, to me they seemed to largely be in relation to the addition of that punch into his arsenal... In other words, the head movement was more a means to set up that right hook, rather than an actual evasive tactic

You gotta hit someone to hurt them, manny didn't land... Marquez was robbed

Marquez landed the better shots anyway and I thought Marquez did a great job of neutralizing pacquiaos power with foot work alone...115-113 Marquez,y'all mad?

Marquez never gave a chance to get into any rhythm all night. He did a great job of neutralizing Pac's offense. You could see Pac becoming frustrated and desperate.

    Marquez was not robbed

32 votes in that poll on the GD page... 17, just over half, think Marquez won... that still leaves 15 people who had it either for Pacquiao or a draw

It's not a robbery... a robbery is 30 people having it for the guy who lost

Maybe not robbed, but he was denied what was IMO a deserved victory due to fighting the right type of fight.

Jimmy - Pacquiao threw and landed more punches, and was more aggressive.

if you think marquez won 3 rounds you are a worthless sack of mierda. that makes it a robbery

what the fuck are you talking about?

    who said anything about 9-3?

Maybe so, but from observing the fight as it happened, I honestly had Marquez as the winner, due to landing better, more eye appealing punches + he counter punched brilliantly and Pacquiao could not discourage him. Pacquiao seemed to me to be the more distressed fighter in there.

I wouldn't go as far as to say I blame Pac more than Mosley, that's crazy, afterall it WAS Mosley who turned up to do nothing more than go the distance.

You might have a point though.

I thought it was Mosley's extreme negativity and that Pacquiao is a nice guy, and played along, but yeah - at times it did look like he couldn't pull the trigger like he used to.

Pacquiao has always been an offensive beast that could force openings, and take advantage of the smallest fucking opening imaginable.

Agreed.Manny was never in control of the fight he was playing catch up most of the time.

Pacquiao did indeed, but that doesn't mean much.

You score fights on punches landed, that's the main factor, and Pacquiao DID land more in more rounds. And although Marquez landed eye catching counters and bodyshots - they were slapping a bit - I feel it was still Manny landing the harder shots.

im talking about the judge who scored the match. you know, the one who helped pacquiao to win.

If he had scored it 7-5 or 6-5-1, Pacquiao still WOULD HAVE WON... it's a red herring, quit harping on it

  23. Neil

    Neil tueur de grenouilles

he didnt score the fight. he just filled out scorecards. the guy gave round 12 to marquez. oldest trick in the book

  24. cdogg187

    cdogg187 GLADYS

    again, this is irrelevant

Whether his card reads 12-0 or 6-5-1... Pacquiao still wins

not one judge had marquez winning

Andrew on this site thinks Marquez won round 12 too

seriously, how can anyone give the 12th to Marquez??? he literally did nothing, didn't even try to win

  27. Neil

    Neil tueur de grenouilles

the relevance is in the fact that glen assholebridge had marquez winning 3 of the first 11 rounds. pacquiao would not necessarily have won if a third judge scored the bout instead of a cardboard cutout

  28. cdogg187

and the fight would be a DRAW, not a win, A DRAW

not a single score card for Marquez

Agreed, it's a downright bizarre thing to say.

He thinks Marquez was flat out robbed, but his opinion is rendered completely void by giving Marquez the 12th round.

Juan himself would probably tell us he didn't win the 12th, like you said he did literally nothing.

Personally, I don't just score fights based on punches landed. I do take into account the other categories needed to win a fight. What I saw was a guy controlling the pace, being the more effective boxer/counter puncher. I saw a guy take away the other guy's main asset(s). I saw a guy more determined to win, a guy who frustrated his opponent.
