I have Chavez, narrowly, in a sensation of a fight. It would be close, alright. I lean to Chavez.

Marquez clear decision. He'd get roughed him a few rounds, but ultimately he'd pick Chavez apart.

Not one bit, JMM would give Chavez fits at 130.
But...I pick Chavez to win a decision 7 rounds to 5 or 8 rounds to 4.
But Chavez would take hard effective counters.
Chavez was great but lets not pretend he was unbeatable...especially against against another all time great...
I hate when people overrate fighters just because they feel no one right now can beat anyone in the 80's or 90's...horrible.

Chavez would win this cleanly... Marquez would be a bloody mess by the end... It's close for 6 rounds or so, but after that Chavez takes over

Oh, and Marquez is not all-time great

    Disagreed on both counts. Personally.

Chavez would NOT dominate half the fight with Marquez at 130.

I have no doubt he would

Marquez is a guy who gets hurt, gets banged up... Chavez is the hurt machine... You need big-time speed to get off and get out against Chavez... Marquez doesn't have that... Scrub brawlers like Diaz and Katsidis have had their moments pushing Marquez around... take those guys and multiply their skills, talent and toughness times 1000 and you have Chavez... he would work Marquez over in the later rounds

I really don't know. Maybe slightly leaning towards Chavez but it will be tight

If this was the older and slower on his feet Chavez from the end of his career you could make a case for Marquez.

However the version @ 130 is too much for JMM.

As much as I like Marquez and hated Chavez... this is no contest. Prime Chavez is a bear for any fighter in history in or around that weight class.

No contest is absurd. Marquez is a live underdog.

    Its Chavez...not Duran.

Cdogg you are my boy, and I respect your opinon on the fight, but to say Marquez isn't an all-time great is just wrong. I know you aren't high on him but respect is due.

Wrong on both counts. You don't understand the sport dude. You know the history and have seen more fights than anyone not named Broadwayjoe...but you just don't get it.

Chavez-Marquez at 130 is a COMPETITIVE fight all the way to the final bell. Chavez wins a close decision for consistent workrate.

Marquez IS an all time great. The little mexican beat Barrera, drew with and arguably beat Pacquiao twice, stopped Casamayor, Katsidis, Gainer, medina and Diaz.

    All time great.

I was with you until the last statement..

Duran wasn't significantly better than Chavez as you imply.

I'd lean towards Chavez but JMM does give him a helluva fight. Taylor landed shitload against Chavez (at higher weight of course) and Marquez even though he wasn't as quick has incredible accuracy and combinations and he would bust Chavez' face up some. Chavez does overcome him eventually but nothing suggests that it would be a one-sided let alone an easy fight

    Hut...you're regressing.

Even IF I was saying that Duran and Chavez were on exactly the same level it wouldn't necesarrily translate into Leonard-Chavez is a pick'em.

Forget Chavez, you think Floyd would have been DOMINATED and blown away in two rounds by Hearns?

He ain't beating a welterweight Ray leonard in 10 tries with his ability either. Or Hearns in 50.
