Whitaker was an absolute freak. There is no one beyond him on his very best night at LW.

C........ I was just fuckin with ya.

For the record, I'd pick prime Pea over anyone 135-140 in history. Even my boy Pryor.

Maybe not Barney Ross. I doubt Pea could handle the black & white era.

Even though he was black, and was fond of the powder white.

I agree Olivares was dominant in his prime. Disagree that his level of comp was outstanding during that time.

He beat (dominated) a lot of good bantamweights, but if you refuse to rate Marquez as an ATG, then I don't see how guys like Lionel Rose can be considered great, or even Chucho Castillo be regarded as very good.

Marquez' flaw was that he wasn't dominant enough, I agree. Because of that, his record is limited with several highly disputable losses (including Saturday).

But just as Olivares was dominant in his prime, Marquez deserves as much credit for longevity and over several weight classes. Plus, nobody in Olivares' BW run rates with Pacquiao or arguably even Barrera. Marquez is arguably 4-0 against them. Even officially, we're talking 3 pts total serving as difference between 1-2-1 and 4-0.

Because everyone know the quality of a boxer is proportional to the quality of film hes recorded on.

Even Vitali Klitschko is a great fighter in Hi-Def.

On a hand-cranked film, hes Jess Willard.

    I agree with Jake.

I give a lot of credit to multiple weights and longevity.

Marquez is still an elite fighter age 38, fighting however many divisions above his natural weight of featherweight.

A 38 year old Chavez would have been slapped all over the ring by the same Pacquiao that Marquez arguably beat on Saturday.

Marquez is a rare fighter that matured late, from the Medina/Peden fights onward I think he became a better fighter, and even today is ridiculously good.

I think he has a better mix of talent/skill than any Mexican fighter I've seen, is very tough, has a fuck load of heart, is versatile etc.

The main criticism of him is that he can tend to not do enough, which is exactly why I scored saturday's fight for Pacquiao, just by being busier.

But overall I honestly believe he has more overall fighting ability than any Mexican ever, and the resumé to match.

We've heard this one from you before, and most if not all argued that it was a silly statement.

It makes even less sense in this thread.

What exactly are you arguing - that Lionel Rose and Chucho Castillo would've been great fighters in today's era? Or that Marquez/Pac/Barrera are just run of the mill fighters in Olivarez' day?

Wtf, I haven't seen the fight but just read 2 judges gave him 5 rounds and the other 4 rounds

How did he manage that? I would have thought Paez would lose every round to Whitaker.

What was his tactic against Whitaker? More aggressive or defensive?

LOL. Everyone believes they, "speak truth." Youll have to do better than that.

Better to dislike a few things and be happy, as I do, than hate everything and be bitter, as you do.
