It's true. Forget pound for pund bullshit. You might say that Anderson Silva and GSP and etc etc are better but fact is if they fought tomorrow JDS kills them. Yes because he is bigger but in the end too bad so sad he still kills them which makes him the best mma figther now and ever. So having established that he beats everybody smaller than him let's now establish he beats everybody his own size. Is there a current or a past heavyweight that beats JDS ? Nope I don't see it at all. JDS is the best mma fighter EVER. And save your breath pointing out he lost to some bum, that was before he hit his prime. The current JDS is the best mma fighter EVER.

Some people here swore on their soul that a young Fedor wouldn't beat Cain. Then comes along Dos Santos and Knocks the shit out of him with sloppy boxing.

exactly. it's obvious for anyone that's not a UFC chill that the level in pride was as good, if not better, than the level we have now in MMA

BOSS's unconditional love for JDS is worse than DAM's mancrush on Fassbender.

It was probably the worst sporting event I've ever seen.

It was pretty bad, I agree. A ton of buildup for a 1-minute fight, followed by 20 minutes of after-the-fact yammering. They should have had undercard fights and other highlights. It was kind of embarrassing.

JDS trains boxing and bjj separately. in reality, he's a straight up boxer who knows how to defend takedowns and get back on his feet IF he's ever taken down.

that's pretty much all you need as a heavyweight. probably the best mma style in terms of excitement.

velasquez beat brock because he could defend takedowns and knew how to mix up his punches, but he's still a wrestler first, boxer second.

Exactly. As I said in the other thread, the UFC has a history of doing things pretty damn good from a marketing stand point, but they blew this opportunity big time.

And sadly, they had a possible fight of the year candidate in Henderson-Guida that could have served as a lead-in.

After watching the high-paced 3 round war between Guida-Henderson, the quick KO in the Main Event would actually have been cool because of the stark contrast.

Dana can spin it all he wants but they failed with their Fox debut.

He will be tough to beat because his hands are better than any other HW's and he's a tough chore to take down.

Cain is still the best guy to beat him. He just needs to shoot and clinch up if the shot doesn't work. He fought with a terrible plan the other night.

What I want to know is because of the quick finish in JDS Vs Velasquez, why the fuck didn't they then show Bendo Vs Guida? Or at least highlights?

All the undercards were shown on Fox Sports West. As well as on facebook.
This was not a sporting event really. This was just a small treat for the fans. Be glad you didnt have to pay to watch it.

They didn't show them live of Fox Sports West. I checked all the Fox channels on Direct TV and ended up watching on Facebook.

And we aren't complaining about the card, we are basically discussing how it could have been done BETTER by the UFC.

As an MMA fan, it was a great weekend. We have the HW Championship live and free with a great undercard also free via stream. On top of that, Bellator 57 had a two great fights in tournament semi-final rounds.

But the UFC could have gotten more bang with their Fox debut is all. You can't really argue that Bendo-Guida as a lead-in wouldn't have been better.

I thought this too until it was known that this isnt a debut at all. This was just a treat for the fans. the debut comes much later, and will be much longer.

To people who don't watch or know anything about MMA, this was the debut. They can't un-see it.

Yeah, that's Dana's spin. No matter how you slice it, they advertised the shit out of this fight as the UFC's debut on Fox. To try and change that after the fact is actually kind of funny.

I don't know how anyone tries to define the UFC's first appearance on FOX as anything other than a 'Debut'.

    It is what it is.

Yeah, downright bizarre actually. Obviously this whole time I was under the impression it was the UFC's debut on fox.

"No, it's not the debut, it's just the first time the UFC was broadcast on FOX"

    What?

I would see this as a fail, if not for the fact that Dana mentioned this fight could go on for 30 seconds or 30 minutes. People were warned. I look at Jake's response to it. Jake isnt an MMA fan really. He is new to the sport and this is what he said.

    I don't get the criticism.

White told everyone going in that this would be a one-fight card, whether it lasted 10 seconds or all five rounds. This show came outside the budget and by his own admission Dana told everyone that Saturday was strictly an investment into the future, which is why he began with a HVY fight.

True fans took the time to watch the various streams leading up to the card. Casual fans were "warned" that they'd get a one-fight telecast.

Most importantly, FOX didn't seem very disappointed with the ratings - 5.7 isn't earth shattering, but the demographic they sought (18-34 males) outdrew college football (Oregon v. Stanford, I believe) and the reality is that ratings would've been better the longer the telecast lasted.

They presented a fight that the public seemed split on the outcome, and in the end the heavyweight title changed hands. I don't blame Dana for telling people what to do with themselves.

There was a lot about the broadcast I didn't care for, but also several elements I liked. More important (to me, anyway), my kids enjoyed it and look forward to watching it when it debuts next Saturday. Unrelated, "Face Off: Cotto-Margarito" left both of them asking "When do they fight again?!" and they also enjoyed the pre-fight weekend coverage for Pacquiao-Marquez III - American Idol-like weigh-in segment and all.

I read Jake's email and you're missing my point. I don't care if the broadcast was considered a success or a failure. I am simply saying that the UFC could have made a much bigger impact with their FOX "debut" if they'd have shown Henderson_Guida.

Fights sometimes end quickly. Hell, Mike Tyson was a PPV animal despite fans full knowledge that it could be over in seconds. The length of the Main Event wasn't the point. The point is that it was a 1-hour show on FOX that had less than 2 minutes of fighting.

You could be right, but i just disagree. I think Henderson vs. Guida would have turned a new audience off. Just IMO. Like i said before, a great fight that would work well with new MMA fans is a Penn vs. diaz.

Well, I could be wrong about Guida-Henderson appealing to the masses.

But hell if you could pick any recent fight, I'd go with Maynard-Edgar II or III as the lead in.

There is a difference between a preview and the debut of an event.

Come on man.. They didn't advertise it as a preview. Watch any NFL game on Fox over the last month and it was pitched as the UFC's debut on FOX.

    Come on man!!!
