It's funny how folks like to rewrite history (or have never even see the fight and make some half-assed assumption) and make it sound like Whitaker did nothing but run for his life against Chavez. Which, of course, is bullshit.

whitaker landed some good shots, and won the fight. if you dont think the entire fight changed when he bashed chavez below the belt you are the retard.
chavez stopped coming as hard after that

who am i apologizing for? i wanted whitaker to win while watching the fight live. it bothers you to admit whitaker changed the arc of fight with an illegal punch?

i asked mayweather jr years ago whether he considered doing the same thing whitaker did against chavez, going into his rematch with castillo. it certainly wouldve deterred castillo from pressing as hard particularly with low/borderline body punches

the fight was already being won by Whitaker before the low blow ever took place... Chavez was already becoming highly frustrated... The template was already there, and nothing really changed after the fact... Whitaker would be in total control for a stretch and then Chavez would ramp it up a bit, WHitaker would coast, Chavez would get a round his way and then back to Whitaker again... christ, even the showtime crew, the biggest bunch of JC dickriders in history, made very little of the low blow as the fight wore on... and in the 18 years since the fight took place, in 1000000 conversations about the fight, you are the first guy I have ever heard cite it as a major factor in the fight, as somehow crucial to Whitaker winning... Ron King never even pulled that card

you wanted the guy to win, but you simultaneously say that he didn't come to fight (i.e. "there wouldn't have been a fight without Chavez") and now you are essentially saying that he won the last 6 rounds of the fight because Chavez was scared for his balls... you're this invested in disagreeing with me because it is ME?

what don king said had some truth to it. not to justify the decision, but to me that was the most re-watchable of whitaker's fights. and there is a reason for that. the opponent. as far as the million fight conversations youve had i dont give a fuck. when the topic comes up i ALWAYS mention that low blow as a key factor in how the fight went down. it was obviously the punch whitaker inflicted the most hurt on chavez with. look at the guys reaction. has nothing to do with you, how pompous of you to think so though

Another useless post from you. Good job. And the forum slips just a little more into revisionism and stupidity.

The low blow was retaliation for Chavez's low blows to the thigh BTW..regardless with or without the low blow Chavez was getting schooled in every facet of boxing the whole fight. Before the low blow and after it. This low blow changed the fight argument is not based in reality.

and did that continue after whitaker retaliated?

do you disagree that it was the most hurtful punch of the fight landed on chavez?

well considering how obsessive you are about bringing up Whitaker every time I have a point of view different from yours about a fighter, it's hardly pompous to expect you to be that cheap and petty... you're pretty much an asshole to every person on here whether warranted or not

I definitely do... he landed a flush straight left off of a double jab that snapped Chavez's head back... that was the most important shot of the fight

as for the first part... Whitaker manages to fight through low punches and does a little payback, and Chavez stops doing it from then on... so Chavez no longer being able to land illegal punches is a knock against Whitaker???

i did not claim it was a knock against whitaker, i said it changed the landscape of the fight. you disagreed with that claim.

its the truth. chavez didnt appear to be hopping around in agonizing pain from any other punches during the fight.

he didn't appear to be hopping around in agonzing pain 15 seconds later or at any other point thereafter... The pattern of the fight had taken form well before the low blow and it resumed after it... well after it

Whitaker beat Chavez (no matter what the three blind mice with scorecards thought) fair and square. Trying to make this low blow the reason for the win is just plain weak.

Last I checked, Whitaker had his measure before and after.
