Cintron is a ho but honestly the guy looked as though hurting alvarez was the last thing on his mind until he himself was on the verge of folding like japans futons and fans.

the guy said "NOBODY THOUGHT he would beat Cintron like THAT"

The fight went down exactly as I expected it to, nothing more, nothing less

It's not "sucking your own dick" if you are responding to an accusation of monday-morning quarterbacking

Nevermind Froggy being on HBO, how is someone as awful as Canelo heading an HBO card? I have no problem with Ginger Rodgers being a main support to an actual good fighter. In the last 2 weeks, you have Chavez jr and Alvarez headlining the premier boxing channel's cards. This card was still under the old head of sports right?

I thought Cintron fought about as well as he ever did last night. In the first few rounds he got the jab going, and was keeping Alvarez off him. At one point he got Alvarez on the ropes and pounded on him a bit, which surprised me. It was as if Alvarez was at times bothered by Cintron's punches. Other times he seemed unaffected.

Cintron was not well trained for this fight. He slows down way too early, and is heaving for breath very early on in his corner. When he did let his hands go, he clocked Alvarez with regularity. In now dismissing Cintron forever I will again say that he needed a better trainer years ago to take advantage of the physical tools he possesses, but never got one, and it is far too late.

Alvarez did a good job with accurate punching. Even when Cintron moved his head, Alvarez was finding him. Alvarez is very patient considering his youth. He can punch, even though his punches don't look like much. They are thudding blows that do damage.

Alvarez would lose a decision against a rangy fighter of even B caliber. Even Cintron was keeping him at a controlled distance with what I would call simply a "decent" jab. Alvarez looked small last night, and this against a lifetime welter.

Bottom line for me is that Canelo needs to change the way he approaches defense. He doesn't really have an identity yet. He gets hit too much, and he is getting used to it as part of getting his offense going. He is not going to be a juking jiving "slick" guy, he is not going to "shoulder roll" his way to better defense. He needs to start doing some little things that integrate with his offense in order to avoid counters, the jab, etc.

A good win for Canelo, more or less what everyone expected, albeit the stoppage was a complete joke. Cintron was previously laying on the ropes, out of his senses, blood pouring down his face.... no stoppage. But a few rounds later, Cintron gets hit with a right, ducks down, and while still on his feet in ducking position.... the fight is stopped? Yes, Cintron was on his way to losing, but with less than 10 seconds left in the round, and still on his feet, in no immediate danger of being hit again.... why stop it? I bet if the ref just waited until round's end, then went to Cintron's corner to examine him (which is how it SHOULD be done - these refs love the limelight far too much), his corner may have stopped it anyway.

Yep. Welcome to hbo's brand of boxing -wholesale hand-picked opposition, easy "virtuoso" fights, and sick over-ratedness

    Yeah.

Steve_Dave gets angry with me when I piss and moan, but when you stay up till all hours to watch a fight, and all you get is some stage-managed hyperbole and Max Kellerman sucking the knob of every half-slick, half-talented ghetto kid in sight, it get's really wearisome. Then they go down to Mexico and you got a Mariachis, a balding Kermit and a weak stoppage with Canelo winded after 5 rounds, Richie Shape-Shifter and Oscar lurking around in the background as Floyd is called out.

    :dunno:

I guarantee that the card from Helsinki next week {Povetkin vs Boswell, Helenius vs Chisora} will not be any less proper of an event and will cost less and promise good action with half of the bullshit.

How many people will watch it? Fuck all.

I do hate max's willingness to drink the kool-aid and worse his effort to encourage us to drink it. It's one thing to acknowledge corruption, it's another to enthusiastically embrace it.

The one thing i have liked about Max is barely even recognizing the sanctioning bodies. He rarely will even say "WBC, WBA" etc. Only that fighter won a belt.

    Teddy has mental health issues.

Kellerman is just a ball-sucker and ball-breaker of equal measure. His endless caressing and coddling of Russell and Broner last night was sickening. Two guys who beat up on squat, talentless opposition being spoken to as if they were the 2nd comings of Pryor and Leonard. Nonsense.

Bunce was getting BANNED from fight-cards in the UK when a spotty Kellerman was throwing stones at the Soviet Mission in Brooklyn. Kellerman thinks a situation is when somebody's yarmulke gets knocked off. Bunce thinks a situation is when 1000 pissed off Sibson fans start throwing CS canisters at Marvin Hagler.

Bunce is excitable and has a nagging voice, but he's a die-hard boxing fan, has written books, has videos out, has attended like 1000's of fights, I mean thousands, and has been in, out and all-over the sport.

    Manny kills him too.

I'd just rather see Canelo vs Kirkland.

I'd REALLY like to see Canelo vs Lara.

Is Berto-Ortiz II signed yet? Because I wouldnt be surprised if Golden Boy matched Canelo and Ortiz.

Its a fight that makes sense. Ortiz is a well known name to casual fans after the Floyd fight, which would give Canelo more U.S. recognition. And with Vic's lack of chin, and mental toughness, Ginger lays him out.

i thought berto-ortiz was a done deal for Showtime. http://espn.go.com/boxing/story/_/id/7277697/date-victor-ortiz-andre-berto-2-choices-sources-say

canelo might be resilent and strong enough to weather some onslaught and land his right hands and hurt pacquiao. canelo looks like he could fight at 160.

i think canelo is good. he's young and is way better than chavez jr. was when he was 21. give him a year or two, i think he'll develop into a very good fighter.

Canelo has NO business at 160. Too short, and stocky. He'd be fat at 160.

    He's a junior middleweight.

well, he's gonna have to move up eventually if he wants that showdown vs. chavez jr.

i guess that may be an even fight considering chavez's size advantage.
