This time against a guy with no pro fights :: http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=24450&cat=boxer
BoxRec is kinda bullshit, it's possible the guy has had pro fights and BoxRec simply doesn't know about them According to that site, at least half of Julio Cesar Chavez Sr.'s first 40 opponents had either never had a ifght before or had one or two tops... This is, of course, ridiculous and virtually impossible But don't tell mikE, he believes they have every fight that ever happened anywhere covered in the old database
it's obviously wrong He has fights against guys with 30 fights and then his next one is a guy who is 0-0 or 1-2 with all three fights being scheduled for 10 rounds, who the fuck fights 10 rounds in their first three pro fights? ... ridiculous BoxRec is likely missing thousands upon thousands of fights, especially as one goes further back in time
REED ISN'T Saying Boxrec's the Be All to End All, but there ARE Instances where Guys Face Dudes w/30 Bouts, then Turn Around & Face a Guy Making a DEBUT, in his Next Bout, Particularly in MEXICO... Moreso, Guys R Likely to Adopt Aliases if/when their Record Gets a Bit Lopsided...Guy Turns Pro @ 15 Years of Age, Gets Off to a 5-12 Start...That Same Guy will Alter his Name @ 18 or 20, & All of a Sudden his Record is 10-2 w/the Alias... REED::
For sure it happens. However if a guy is "used to" going against oppostion that has 30 fights unders his belt? Chances are if he's going against somebody 0-3-1 either the records aren't complete, or there was a last minute change of fighter.
Probably a bit of both. I'm sure boxrec is wrong in a lot of instances, and I also think what REED says is probably true in a lot of cases. Plus, there's a reason why Chavez is known as the destroyer of taxi drivers etc, I mean those opponents largely looked as bad as their record suggests ::
It's not wrong. Boxrec itself merely records the information it is presented with . If a guy shows he is 5-3-1 then Boxrec records that. If he comes back and shows he is 9-11-1 then boxrec records that. If he comes back and is 0-0-0 then boxrec records that. It's like a tape-recorder. It just picks up on whatever shit comes down the airwaves. Its up to the local commissions to decide WHO a person is and therefore WHAT their correct record is. With the "written-in-stone" stuff {who the judges were, who the ref was, what the scores were, who was down in what round, where the fight was staged, the date etc} they do a good job. Guys like Julius Francis had 2 unofficial fights to earn cash, while he was still an amateur. I don't expect Boxrec to neither pick up, nor print that stuff.
