Berto fought his whole amateur career at middleweight he's big enough. It would be a heck of a scrap I think Berto would win he's more experienced and should be able to out punch Alvarez.
After alvarez proclamation it seems he's the front runner to face mayweather jr.in may. Big money fight for small risk
Gotta admit I wouldn't even blame Floyd much for taking that fight. Too easy an opportunity to pass up, big money against a hyped young name fighter, with almost no risk at all, and another 154 pound belt.
Previously I agreed and figured they'd nurture that bout but its a big fight now, bigger than the ortiz fight and alvarez could maintain his stardom after receiving a whipping. It can happen in may if arum won't accept a favorable split for the guy who's realistically the main chap at welter
Perhaps, but I still think Mayweather-Khan is more likely. Provided Mayweather-Pac doesnt come off. Unless of course Peterson pulls the upset (unlikely, but not impossible).
I completely disagree. Schaefer has been trying to plan the fight as early as two years ago (though I'm sure a big part of it was just to put Alvarez' name out there), and I'd be shocked if Oscar didn't specifically tell Canelo to call out Floyd last night. Golden Boy couldn't stop celebrating the moment he said it. That said, Floyd-Khan would make more sense, especially with Khan talking more and more shit about Manny these days.
To answer the original thread question... I don't see Berto doing much as a pro above 147. He already looks a bit too puffy. Adding more muscle to compete at 154 would only hurt him
They won't make Mayweather-Alvarez if the big plan is to match Ginger with Chavez Jr. Get ready for Mayweather-Khan in May, and Pacquiao will face Bradley around early Summer.
Khan talks shit, period. Once he knows your name, its only a matter of time before he is talking shit about you. Khan didn't even try to pretend Manny beat Marquez, he was walking around openly talking shit about how Manny lost handily.
Alvarez would beat Berto up. Alvarez is not as good as HBO/Golden Toy want us to think he is. That's the problem with being overrated, as soon as people feel you are ovverrated, they over-correct and make you under-rated. Canelo is OK. He's a bigger man than Berto by a fair bit. I think he stops Berto.
I'm not sure about this. I think Berto might have the edge in ability, and to me they look exactly the same size, both 5'8 and stocky-ish. Alvarez might be a bit more solid than he looks. It depends on how much of a size/strength advantage Alvarez has. To me this is a pick em fight.
Maybe, maybe not. To me they are similar level fighters, and I don't think there's a significant size difference either. Alvarez has suspect stamina, plus Berto has much faster hands and more accuracy. I wouldn't be remotely surprised if Berto won. Can Ginge even take a punch?
Ginger is CLEARLY physically stronger than Berto. That shouldnt even be up for debate. Berto got physically man handled by Ortiz.
Actually that's true. Berto LOOKS pretty solid and stocky, but he's not strong at all. Decent power, not much physical strength.
Alvarez really reminds me alot of Matthew Hilton. Similar height, build and everything. I think Hilton had more raw power though, but Ginger is more technical sound. You agree?
I think Hilton would have kicked the living shit out of him. I just watched that fight with Cintron again, damn Canelo is a sloppy, fat mess. He fell short with his right hand too often. Hilton had a much "harder" physique but there are similarities with the short strong torso. <object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/GYx9d78NPZE?version=3&feature=player_detailpage"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/GYx9d78NPZE?version=3&feature=player_detailpage" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="360"></object> Hilton seems waaaaay more compact and concise for some reason.
Good point. And yeah I agree Hilton would have knocked him out. I said as much on MM a few weeks ago. Scumbag Ayala Jr. would have ruined Ginger as well. Even though Tony never faced a legit challenge (neither has Ginger), Ayala was so much more naturally talented it isnt even funny.
I was shocked when I saw the fight with good quality........Canelo was missing, got hit too often, falling short, his face was bloated too.....he seemed out of sorts. Ayala was a superior young talent for sure and he probably didn't do any worse with the version of YBC he fought than Alvarez would have. I was sold on Alvarez by how he took out Baldomir with a single big left but he's not been so good since. Maybe he needs a break. He's 21 and has what, 40 fights?
I don't recall HBO calling Alvarez elite or anything.I like the path he's going,he's only 21 for christ sake get out of the kids ass.
Yeah, the Baldomir fight was the only time Canelo has TRULY impressed. People keep saying how Canelo is so young, and is gonna get sooo much better. But....... I fail to see it. IMO what we see from him now is BASICALLY what we're gonna get. And ALSO..... Canelo strikes me as the type that will eventually let his fame and hype go to his head, and lose motivation. He'll be fine at 154 though, considering the division isnt as deep now as it was once was. Just as long as he stays away from Lara, who would completely outbox him. Hell, Austin Trout might also have the style to beat him.
